depth center needed. ideas?

Flames put C Jason Morgan on waivers 2 days ago when Blair Betts came back from injury. Betts reinjured his shoulder, and Nashville claimed Morgan.

Leaves the Flames with only 2 centerman, Yelle and Lombardi plus convered LWer Dean McAmmond. Believe it or not, we have no minor league centermen.

Conroy tweaked his knee and is a few weeks away.

we need a fill in at C. any proposals? (please don't roll Iginla into this, and we aren't taking Perreault or anyone else with a 3 M price tag)...I guess I"m looking for deals like the Minny Philly one with Chouinard from a few weeks ago

anyone with a marginal center you'd be willing to flip for a draft pick?

Give you a 28 year old, centerman/leftwinger who's scored 14 goals in 38 games so far this year, is feisty, and scored around .49 points per game over 586 games. He has 120 career NHL goals. Graduate of the WHL, where he won some Mem Cups (3).

Throw in a 6th. defender/3rd. rounder.

for

Lydman.

Of course, here at HF, his value diminishes 10 fold if you say his name :p

I don't have the same issues with said player as some other Flames fans, just don' t think we are looking for something that drastic with Reinprecht and Conroy back eventually.

but mystery man and a third rounder for lydman is fair value, I think

I'm not sure Tucker is the player Looob is looking for, and the Flames, I gather, wouldn't necessarily give Lydman up for him and a few picks, or a pick and a depth defender, considering how he is a big part to the Flames' defence.

I think what Loooob is looking for is temp help really... Reinprecht and Conroy will be back eventually, so why give up tons right now??

best bet might be UFAs... heard that Gilmour may have expressed some interest in attempting a comeback... and there is also Ronning out there who still doesn't have a contract.... neither choice would cost you anything more than salary, and given how long they've been sitting out, neither will likely command much.

Ronning would be my pick in this situation... when everyone's back, it makes it easier to move Conroy (UFA at end of year).

other than that, there might not be much out there... there are soon to be UFAs - but they usually come with considerable salaries (ie. Ricci)... cheaper depth players are also hard to come by as most teams don't really have a need to get rid of them at this point in the season.

guys like Perrault are easily available, but again have the salary attached.

I'd just sign Ronning at this point.

believe Brown's salary is at $1.7mill (or is it $1.4?? can't rememeber)... either way it seems too high for them (think they're over budget already, and have their $4.5 mill goalie back soon)...

think they'd be more interested in a cheap depth player they can get for a mid round pick...

they are fine at center when everyone's back... Lombardi has improved his play, and with him, Conroy, Yelle, Reinprecht and Betts (when he's back) they're okay there - so why give up something valuable, and add so much salary for a temp. solution?

I totally wouldn't do that. Lydman has #1 abilities and he's a key cog of the Flames.

I think all we need is a depth center - just depth, not Tucker. I would go for Brown though. I'd give a second rounder for him (Turek's contract is being paid by insurance so why not)

Seriously, if that's the case,

To Cal: Todd Harvey

To SJ: 7th round 2004

Boom, you're all done after that, if you make it a 6th, we'll eat some of his salary.

Then it's done, Holzinger and the Pens 1st round pick for Petr Buzek.

Ducks could possibly offer a pivot like Krog, Pahlsson or Holmqvist.
They need a #5/6 puckmoving defenceman who can fill in while Ozolinsh is out

Then again I am a self admitted Lydman homer. But still, he's worth more than Tucker by a justifiable margin.

Let me just add I would be totally up for acquiring Curtis Brown for a 2nd. Money constraints may come in but he'd be a great fit for the Flames.

I like Lydman as well, so you could probably convince a justifiable margin of a prospect out of me along with Tucker. Just not a forward prospect. Mind you if the Flames defensive depth isn't there, then it just isn't doable.

Matt Cullen for a 3rd round pick. a lil pricy possibly for Calgary, but his contract is up at the end of the year I believe, and could be a stopgap for them preently.

If the Panthers will accept Buzek as a throw-in -- then the Flames would probaby go for it.
