Why do we always seem to play the same teams in the pre-season. I'm getting sick of Columbus, Nashville and Washington.

Columbus is new, aren't they? Usually it's Nashville plus the Southeast.

Nope. These are the exact same teams as last year.

L vs. Nashville, 4-5
L at Nashville, 3-7
L at Columbus, 2-4
L vs. Columbus, 1-4
W at Washington, 4-2

Caps fan here.

So, um.. apparently the season opener for you guys is free. I may make the trip down from DC, since it's only 4 hours. How exactly are they keeping track of this though? Obviously there's a limited number of people they're going to let in, which I would imagine would be the arena capacity. Does anyone know if they're just going to be letting people in until it's full? Or is this the first time they're doing this "free home opener" thing?

I was about to ask the same thing.

I'm a caps fan too and would like to go but do you have to get tickets or just show up. i don't want to drive 4 hours and get there and not be able to get in if it's full.

It will only be free to Hurricanes' fans.

I know they've done the whole "Caniac Carnival" before (I've avoided it to be honest). Generally they have a limited amount of tickets that they have available there since STHs get all the pre-season games as part of our package, and I think the 24 game packs get a free one as well. I'm prety sure they don't have the club level boxes open to the public for this either, well not unless you hold tickets there anyway. That still leaves quite a few extra tickets available to the public, but it's no real garentuee. My best recomendation would be to come down here on Saturday, get to the Caniac Carnival early as you can on Sunday and get the tickets. I wasn't able to make last years due to a scheduling issue but the first pre-season game after the lockout the RBC Center was absolutely packed.

Or you can call the ticket office and ask what the procedure is for getting tickets. I doubt they would be mean to you simply because you guys are Caps fans.

The "Carnival" will really crank up around 12 if its like previous years. There is an autograph session, rides and things outside the arena for the kiddies, some skill competition things outside (and a chance to shoot the puck on the RBC ice, tour of the locker room)...you get the idea. Preseason game follows with tix distributed as mentioned above. Last year I think they gave out wristbands for the free tickets.

Season Ticket Holders will get their tickets first. Then whatever is left over (approx. 8000 or so) will be handed out on a first come first serve basis.

For those interested I am going to go ahead and say it now.

I'll host (well, host as much as I can) the Canes @ Sabres game this year.*

*I should probably check with Afino on this but it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
