ahh yes the Beckhamgasm. I was editing the video, and just had it on in the background. "We're going to cut away from live action to show you David Beckham putting on his shoe, ok back to live action. Wait, he's taking his shoe off again..."

To be fair to ESPN, Beckham coming to MLS now is even bigger than Pele playing in New York in the 70s. Not because Becks is or ever was half as good as Pele. Soccer has a foundation now that it didn't have 30 years ago. Becks coming here could actually vault soccer into a new stratosphere. He brings with him some credibility to the league.

Who was the best player in MLS before he came along? Landon Donovan?

Beckham is still in the top 100 players in the world, if not top 50. Donovan's not even close.

I'm so stoked with this club I'll be heading over to Chicago for the Crew/Fire match in 2 weeks. Look out Polish hooligans!

Not sure how relevant this is to the topic at hand... but I was in Barcelona last week and saw two guys in FCB regalia jump some dude (tourist, Iäm sure) wearing a Beckam Real Madrid jersey... I suppose they didn't kill the guy seeing as I didn't read about it on the news, but I couldn't tell you either way, as I walked briskly in the exact opposite direction

A question for all you other Fantasy Football players.....

What preseason guides do you use that you would recommend for me? I think Street and Smith puts out a good guide, but if there are any others worth looking for at the bookstore when I go there next, I'll check into it.

Not the smartest idea to be wearing a Madrid jersey in Barcelona.

Fixed for you. And I'm so right there, BTW.

Take each with a grain of salt and pay attention to when they were published (some are done right after the draft). I like Pro Football Weekly and Athlon in addition to S&S.

I think you're right, DSL - the issue date is likely to be very important. Thanks for the reply.

i DVR'd the LA/CFC game....

side note: i don't think i could watch TV without DVR, it allows you to fast forward through commercials..or in this case just crap coverage and to the stuff you really want to watch. I got to FF through Rob Stone/Julie Foudy talking forrrreevvveerr before the match started and then finally got to settle down with the game

i also recorded the David Beckham: New Beginnings that was on ESPN before the game and it was just an hour documentary about the life of the Beckhams from the past year....you had him talking about getting left off the England squad (after the WC, only to be brought back on) and then him getting left off the Real squad after announcing the LA move

one interesting part about him being left off the Real Madrid squad for a bit was that he was still allowed to "practice with the team" that is until the cameras left and then he and Ronaldo were told to go practice on their own

All in all i respect Becks a lot more now after having watched that than i did before he came over....i think its a good move for MLS and wouldn't be surprised to start seeing more and more players come over before they are in the "twilight" of their careers

ps i picked up a FF mag that was "#1 rated mag in Fantasy Football" and it served me pretty well in my draft but to each his own

Well, it's not the smartest thing in the world to go to Barca in the first place anyway

EDIT: I've actually been buying shirts for the football teams from the bigger cities I've visited... after the aforementioned incident, however, I shan't be wearing any till I'm firmly back on American soil

That's almost as bad as wearing a Liverpool jersey in Milan! (but not quite)

I knew the TEAMS/fans hated eachother, but I had no idea the actual cities would probably go to war tomorrow with eachother if there was no European Union (I of course learned this when I asked the guy working at the hostel I was staying in )

Nice to see the NHL duck negative publicity for a change..

NFL camps are under-way today so let me be the first to say:

To Browns fans:
If its brown flush it down.

To Bengals fans:
If its striped use it to wipe.

Looks like I'm wiping - Go Bengals!

Brady Quinn's looking to start his career the way most successful QBs do: a lengthy holdout.

I really don't understand this move. Is Lofton going to be playing corner-outfield?

Yes, he'll probably platoon with Michaels and play left. He may also lead off and allow Grady to move down to the middle of the order. He's old, but he's having a productive year with the Rangers and they only had to give up a prospect (admittedly, a good one from high-A Kinston) for him. Tribe fans couldn't stand much more of Nixon and Delucci!

He is hitting .325 (7 home runs) off Right handers...not so hot .221 off left handers. I would think he will start every game vs right handers and be a great option off the bench on days he doesnt start. Pinch hit vs right handers or pinch runner for Haffner.

He is an upgrade to Nixon/Deluchi(sp). And has playoff experience...for whatever that is worth.

I like the move.

A pretty interesting story over on the Lake Erie Monsters site about what a big job it is to put together the AHL schedule.
