21 Man Roster

it's not ideal but I think it's the best way to save cap space. by my calculations, they have $6,960,357 for Lundqvist, Avery and Hossa with a 22 man roster, which is extremely tight. carrying 21 men would give them at least another 500K to play with. Pck would back-up at forward and defense.

Devils played with a shorter bench a lot last year because they were at the cap ceiling...I wish we didnt have to be in that position as well.

Thats not with Kaspar's Salary in the Minors is it?

Because i visit this site for a good break down of the numbers. And with Shanahan's pay being added, then Kaspar's being taken away it's basically still at around 8. Not really trying to add it all up, but thats just my guess.

First off, it's a 23 (generally 2G, 13F and 7D) man roster, not 22. I can't imagine the Rangers will opt to carry only 12 forwards (means that Orr has to play every night) and they have already signed a 7th defenseman (Strudwick) who should not be in the lineup all too often at all. Plus, other than Callahan and maybe Girardi, there aren't any other waiver exempt players, so unless you want to send them down (and you can't yo-yo a player, there's a limit I'm pretty sure as to how many times you can re-call a player), you're pretty much stuck. Better hope Staal makes one of the M&Ms tradeable.

*RFAs going to arbitration--Rangers can walk away from their contracts if they feel they are too expensive. Otherwise, they're signed too.

That site isn't correct--they don't list Girardi, Callahan or Shanahan's contracts as part of the cap hit. That's about 4 million right there, plus, they won't leave Kaspar's roster spot empty (assume another $825,000). So, it's closer to $6 million left over, even without Kaspar's hit.

It sure looks like there will be a trade made at some point. 6 mill left to sign 2 key guys is not enough.

it really depends on who the spare guys are...if you are talking about guys like pock and strudwick that make $600k you really aren't saving that much
