What I remember most about Methot was nothing...

And in a lot of ways that is a good thing. He seemed to fit right in, was sound in his own end. He didn't make any critical mistakes that I can remember, and did a good job. He isn't flashy or flamboyant, just steady and dependable, and thats the best compliment you can give to a defenseman.

Put into the right situation (bottom pairing, playing 17-19 minutes a game, maybe 2nd PK unit), yes I think he is. He's a solid 5/6 guy with top 4 potential, IMO. He's one of the few guys on the team that can really develop through playing at the NHL level. I think he has a good shot of making the team. Hitch liked him too, which is a good advantage for him coming into camp.

I didn't really notice his skating, which probably means it's good.

He's very close to NHL ready. Most her thought he'd make the team fore sure before the Brookbank and Hejda signings. He still could, but will at least be a call-up.

He was solid and did his best work in his own end, but what impressed me most, or maybe just surprised me, was his offensive zone smarts, in particular moving toward the net at the appropriate time for a pass or shot.

In other words, it's a critical year for Methot

Picture of him from the Dev camp

I think he has the tools, as mentioned, you didnt notice him, which is perfect for a defensman. He was calm in his own zone, and to use a close comparison on stats....Westcott played 23 games with 10 points and a -13, Methot played 20 games with 4 points, and +5....Westcott needs to win a spot from Methot IMO

This kid is very solid, smart, and just a good all around player and person. Due to a bit more depth on defense going into this year, he may have one more year in Syracuse, but after that, I really have no doubt he will be a full-time NHL player.

Very excited about him possibly making the team this season. As already noted, he stands out by how much he doesn't stand out. As young as he is, that's a real plus.

He came in and did a great job last season. He was dominant in the prospect camp. His skating is almost identical to Vladmir Malakhov (a good thing). As it stands right now, he is our 8th guy (behind Brookbank).

It is nice to know that if 2 defensemen go down with injuries we THEN turn to Methot. We've never had that kind of depth.

Just as long as he doesn't ski like Malakhov.....

I thouhgt Methot was one of our best players last night. I think this guy plays every night from here on out. I believe he is better than OKT and Westcott right now. Here is what I want to see paring wise.

Foote Hejda
Klesla Russell
Methot Hainsey

I think Methot could really grow into a leader on this team.

I echo that, however he still isn't a very offensive blueliner. Depending on what we do with Footer, I think we'll be limited offensively again next year. Hejda wants a contract extension, which I support, but again he isn't an offensive guy.

I do like Methot though, he is better than Duvie and OKT.

I think that since he is so young still...he has a lot of room to grow. I think maybe this offseason he can really work on his offensive skills. He doesnt need to be great at it, just better. Hitch is a big "get the puck through the zone fast" coach so that being his MO, Methot will probably be coached up very well in this area. I dont really care if he scores goals...just be able to move the puck up the ice fast.

Very, very solid last night, I think he'll be a good stabilizer for Russell.

Still can't believe he checked Backes so hard that his stick flew up into the air. That was fantastic!

I think he is one of our better defensemen to be honest. Last year he looked great and wasn't really scored on when he was in. I saw him last night and thought he did pretty well for his first game this year

That's a very solid defense....Westcott's future is questionable, OKT will probably end up being the 7th. At one time I believe Hitchcock said once Methot was called up (and playing) he would stay...

With Methot and Brassard up, Zherdev retooled, Leclaire relatively healthy, Norrena solid as a backup, Novotny and Hejda pleasent surpises, and Peca dead set on staying in the lineup I think we have maxed out on the hopeful preseason positives. That's excellent.

Now is all we need is some scoring consistency and a winning streak or two....

Methot is solid.

I have a man-crush on him now for his actions last night as well.

When Fristche took the last second shot that upset the Blues and created an end of the game scrum, Methot found Backes (he of Zherdev hit fame). Methot pins him up against the glass, then starts to pull his Jersey over his head, Backes crouches forward as the refs start to get involved, Methot gets in a good/decent right hand as Backes is leaning forward with his head about waist high, then Methot crushes/pushes his head into the glass/boards.

If you missed it, watch your DVR again and read Methots lips.

Backes says something that you cant see cause his head is turned from the camera and Methots reply as he is laughing/smiling at Backes is....

You ready? I've got nothing better to do right now......

And then something else to the effect... it wont bother me or it wont hurt me?

Great kid.

He will be Foote's replacement

EDIT: Though, I hope noone's written off Tollie. I think he's been injured for quite a while now; he really looked like he was playing hurt over the last 20 or so games. Whether he was or not, I don't know, since I don't work for the team But if the boys actually start hitting again with more regularity as a team, he can be a force.
