Official: Lundqvist agrees to 1 year deal-$4.25 million

Quote:
NEW YORK (CP) - Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will get US$4.25 million in a one-year NHL contract with the New York Rangers.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=213269&hubname=

Quote:
That out of the way, an announcement could come as early as this morning that Lundqvist has agreed to a one-year contract worth approximately $2.5 million. The deal is essentially a bridge to next season and beyond that will enable Lundqvist and the club to avoid their scheduled July 24 salary arbitration case while keeping the Rangers from having to unload players to get under this season's $50.3 million salary cap.

The 25-year-old goaltender will get his big-money, long-term deal soon enough. After Jan. 1, 2008, the Rangers can sign Lundqvist to a lucrative and lengthy extension for 2008-09 and beyond without affecting their '07-08 salary-cap situation. And they almost certainly will do so
.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ho...hanny-1-1.html

His arbitration hearing was scheduled for July 24

Quote:
The GM has turned his immediate attention to striking a one-year deal with Lundqvist prior to the goaltender's scheduled July 24 salary arbitration hearing. Though age- and experience-comparables Ryan Miller and Cam Ward are each under contract for $2.667 million, the Rangers and Lundqvist are believed talking about a deal in the $3-3.25 million range

Very good news, coupled with the Shanny re-signing, most of us will be able to sleep easier knowing this.

If true, props to Henke
I'm bit disapointed by Shanny's "greedines", good to see that Henke is understanding Rangers cap problems...

Let's see how much he wants in his extension first, if he wants the numbers that have been reported before, like 5 million per year, then I think this deal was very good.

So at the high end for the King @ 3.5 + 2.5 for Shanny, we still have room to get Avery in b/f his Arbitration date.

Hell this leaves room for Avery & Hossa.

This is great news heading into this season. It allows the Rangers and Henke more time to talk about a long-term deal during the season. Sign Avery back prior to him going to arbitration, and let's get this thing rollin already.

How does this Lundqvist contract affect his status next year. Can he become a UFA next year no matter what? Or will he still be a RFA if Sather can't sign him.

Wow, so with the low number for Henke, will we now have room to pay all of Shanny's bonuses under the cap this season? I understand his bonuses count against next season's cap if they would push us over this year, but I get the feeling we might be able to absorb it all this year.

no, because he won't be 27 or have played 5 seasons. The main differance will be that next year the Rangers won't have the option of taking him to arbitration.

Still RFA. However, we would be forced to match an offer, see Vanek, or accept first round picks. My question is do the Rangers lose their arbitration rights if agreement is reached before the hearing

OK, I see he would be a RFA next year and UFA the year after. As far as him not being greedy. Wait till they try and sign him long term. If he plays great up to Jan, you can bet he will ask for 7 Y 42 M at the least. Cheaper for this year yes. More expensive by a lot if he plays well till January, you better believe it.

Good news, now if Sather can get Avery and Hossa done, October 4th, cannot get here fast enough.

And if he plays well until January, further cementing himself as a legitimate number one, franchise goaltender, then he sure as hell deserves a fat contract.
