Pretty big talk coming from a team that had a lot of talent going into the season and finished in the bottom 5. Talent isn't everything, it takes heart and skill to go far in this league, something Sutter will instill. But I agree, this is the least talented Devils team since 1996. No #1 C(Gomez is no #1 C either, he's always had 2nd line C #'s), no #1 D (But we didn't have one of those last season)

How is Sutter going to instill skill? He gonna bag skate them until they evolve into more skilled players?
Yeah, and somehow I don't see a free agent signing of Sopel or Brisbois the panacea to solve your teams woes. There just isn't the talent out there anymore to really change what was said.

we were tremendously young at the talent end of the spectrum.
it takes experience to go far in this league generally... that's the great trumper of all things. two equally "skilled" teams, but one with a lot more experience... i'd always wager on the experienced team.
Gagne = Elias is fair no?
Gionta < Briere
Parise > Knuble
Zajac > Hartnell (yes I'm that bold, I can see Zajac having a stronger season than Scott
Madden < Carter
Pandolfo > Lupul (I mean Lupul was just putrid last year, absolutely awful and Pandolfo is one of the premiere shut down LW in the game)
Brylin < Richards
As for the rest of the guys they're pretty much on par. Although, why does it seem you listed more Flyers than Devils? You're not miles ahead of us. But anyways, talk is cheap, lets wait for the season. It should be fun as always
I meant he gets the most out of his players, including every last bit of skill left in any of the youngin's. Parise + Zajac > Carter + Richards
he's never coached pros... and, yes, that matters. i'm a fan, and was a big supporter of bringing him here and think Stevens is a bad option for this year... but i'm not sure i'd necessarily crow about what he's going to get out of guys until he gets it.
he's a good candidate and should be a good coach... but far from proven at this level and it doesn't always work.

Forward wise. Defense and goaltending are different issues.
not that it really matters, but Eager is a much better hockey player than Janssen. Janssen is a 4th line hack... Eager has the potential to contribute as a third liner in this league.
Can't wait till the season starts. Maybe when the Devils reach the playoffs yet AGAIN, and contend for the Atlantic crown, people might realize that no matter how many players the Devils lose, they are still near the top.
Sir you are entitled to your opinion, but I will fight you to the death on Upshall >> Brylin. Upshall has not shown anything so far in this league where as Brylin is a 3 time stanley cup champion, and plays every forward position, on any line 1-4

Yes, it's those magical jerseys.
Reality is its those players wearing the jerseys, and there aren't as many good ones as there used to be.
I agree with Richards one notch over Brylin because he's effective at what he does, but my system was flawed because I didn't do position by position like you did (Cause I don't know the Flyers lines) but with your way, it makes more sense. Richards is more of a winner and more of a player than Upshall can ever hope to be.
We'll see about that. Upshall was dynamic after arriving from Nashville.
Sergei Berezin scored 5 goals in 2 games for every team he started out with. A lot of players get jacked up by arriving with a new team and fizzle into the oblivion and at this point I wouldn't put Upshall over Brylin. We'll see when the season starts though man. I have respect for the Flyers, even more so after last year (Because they still put up an awesome fight with so many injuries + Hatcher)

True, but again, what does this have to do with John's original statement. He said that this is the least skilled team the Devils have had in over a decade, do you disagree?

You don't know our lines, but yet you are going to argue that yours are better? Brilliant basis for an argument.
