Glad to see this got done. About the same cap hit as SOB which is what I expected. Hopefully he works out some of the mistakes he had this past season because he seemed to lose some confidence and instead of making his good breakout pass he would wait and give the puck to Boyle to bring up ice.

very respectable contract and a great piece to have on the team for the next 3 years.

Absolute steal for the Bolts. D-men like his are so valuable, and a good, young one like Ranger only gets $950K a year?? Feaster now has a great contract for the next three years.

Ho Hum........

Let's see how many games into the season he can go before he gets benched. Sorry I'm not as excited as everyone else.

Darn it...I thought about posting "I wonder how long it will take for someone (Goalie Needed) to try to rain on the parade." But you came thru and didn't let me down. I was wondering if you were OK, because you hadn't posted your predictable slam on (fill in the blank) Lightning player.

Just teasin.

Glad to see him re-signed. He has gotta be one of the most underrated players in the NHL, polar opposite of Boyle.

+1... I very much expected him to get a little less than Komisarek out of Montreal. I was thinking a little less than $1.5M per season.

The defenseman wanted more than the $495,000 qualifying offer that kept his rights in the Lightning's control. Given Ranger's value and upside, general manager Jay Feaster was amenable, as long as he got something in return.

"I would venture to say that of all the negotiations and contracts that [assistant general manager] Claude Loiselle has worked on, this was clearly the most difficult," Feaster said.

Ranger had his share of "duh" moments last year but overall I think he's a positive for the team and will continue to improve so I'm happy they got him. Good deal.

Absolutely I do. If we got rid of every defenseman who has a few brain farts in their second year we wouldn't have any left, Kubina and Hamrlik would have been run out of town.

I think this was a good signing. He had a promising first year with a disappointing second season. I think he will turn around this season. I am cautiously optimistic about our D, except for Luk...

Sorry, I'm the Luko hater in the group, I guess. I hope he proves me wrong!!!!

Fair enough. Obviously a "few" is 1) a matter of opinion and 2) A different figure for everyone. A few to me is countless blunders in his own end, which matters more to me than his first pass out of the zone ability (which he isn't as good at as some would think). I don't think the guy is horrible, I'm just not ready to call on brass bands and balloons for his resigning either. Can I live with Paul Ranger? Yes. But I'm hoping for a different pairing for him this season, which is not going to happen. But for you to call him one of the most underated players in the NHL to me is an huge stretch. And I'll end with a question; You have to pick one, SOB or Paul Ranger? I already know who you'd take. That tells me right there that Ranger isn't underated in your mind.

I thought O'Brien was the better player last year.

My cynicism wins again! Saw this coming. Overpaid? Ehhhh.

As for Boyle being underrated...he's overrated in Tampa, gets a yawn elsewhere.

"As I keep trying to remind our fans, while other teams and the media, especially, are talking about this unrestricted free agent or that big-name free agent, the fact remains that we have four of the very best players in the NHL right here in Tampa. Lecavalier, St. Louis, Richards and Dan Boyle are All-Stars, they are the kind of elite, premier players that the media would be drooling over were they unrestricted."

"Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis and Boyle are the high profile players we took care of keeping right here in Tampa so that other teams could NOT cherry pick them away from us in free agency."

You know, the light bulb in the mouth just kind of meshed with the whole Lightning thing. Big hit with the kids, lurking around the concourse handing out mini sticks. Who knew he held Boyle in such high regards though, wow!

"The Media"? Yeah, SI.

Who else is going to want Boyle? The Panthers want him back or something? Can we give him back?

I am sure several teams will want Boyle and he will get atleast 3.5-4.5 million a year.
