Well I think I'm the **** now at golf because I made my first birdie today on the final hole when me and my friend were tied. Anyway...
Whenever i'm doing a shot i have to overcompensate by putting my hands ahead of the ball. What I want to know is are my wrists supposed to be breaking and how much?

The left wrist is supposed to be in a straight line with the left arm. The right hand can break though... dunno by how much, I think it's diffrent depending on some things.
I went golfing today, I did pretty good. I missed a hole-in-one by 2 freaking inches.
Ah, man - sorry to hear that. Up until this year I've had several close calls like that. Last month, I did get my first ever hole in one, so keep the faith - your day will come.
I played yesterday afternoon and shot 4 over par for nine holes, which is becoming a pretty regular score for me lately. I need to work on my approach shots, as they tend to be rather erratic. If I can improve on those, I may end up being a scratch golfer yet.
Sat morning , 540 par 5, hit driver, 3 iron to 110 yds, hit wedge, hopped once, spun , and in the hole for Eagle. 1st time I holed out from over 100 yds, went on to shoot a 3 over 73, best round of my life.

Normally my sand play is absolutely awful from the standpoint that I tend to give myself at least a 15 foot put by overpowering from the bunkers. But I had an absolutely bueatiful shot last Friday from a greenside bunker into an elevated green where the pin was a bit over eyelevel and towards the center. I got under the shot a good bit, enough to get it onto the green, and the ball just kept rolling to about 20 inches from the pin for an easy par put.

i played for the first time ever last night and shot a 51 on a 9-hole par 3....
at least i have a number to beat next time around!
Ya gotta start somewhere.
I used to be a 5 handicap when I played 3 rounds a week but the last 3 years it's lucky if I play 1 round a month.Kids and a boat will do that.Playing today though in a 4 person scramble tourney. Those are always a blast as many beers are consumed during tha day.

That's awesome!!! It's shots like that that keep us coming back to play!!!
I was thinking about picking up my first set at Golf Town this week... Not sure if I should go for a full set yet or just a set of irons +putter for now... I don't think i'll be playing par 5's anytime soon...
anyone know when golf town usually has their sales?

Honestly I think your best bet for clubs is on eBay. You can get a good set of clubs lower than retail stores.
A very good set of clubs for beginner, IMO, are the Wilson Di5 irons. You can get a set on eBay for around $150.
You'll also need a sand wedge and lob wedge along with a putter.
If you don't think you will be playing a regulation course for a while, I'd skip the woods at this point.
I take it you're a pretty good player if you are looking for tour issued equipment.
Well, I'm not of professional material just yet. My handicap is 3,4. But I need tour equipment to be able to develop my game further. You just can't spin the ball and controle it like the pro's unless you have the same equipment.

Agree to disagree on this topic. I'm a 3 handicap and I use standard, retail equipment. I have no trouble spinning my wedges and controlling the ball flight. I play with numerous scratch golfers and local pros on a regular basis and all of them use retail equipment as well.
IMO no amateur "needs" tour issue equipment. Wanting it, on the other hand, is a completely different topic. If I had $1500 to drop on a driver I'd probably get one just to have one. But I don't "need" one to improve my game.

First time ever for me today, did the 9-hole par 3 course twice with some friends. First time through, 54. Second time, 48, including starting off birdie, then par and finishing by the ball hopping over the flag (shot a 4). I like to think those three holes were the only ones that mattered.

Nice man. I recently tried my luck at a 9-hole par 5 and totally ruined my confidence. Penalty strokes counted I shot a 72!

That's not too bad for a first round

I just played a scramble tourney on friday and it sure is a ton of fun although I chose to skip the beers cause I wanna be able to enjoy the game and play to the best of my abilities.
What do you people think are the best ways to choosing a good 3 wood. I have a 20 year old club that I don't even hit because I can hit my 2 iron better and just as far but I wanna geta good 3 wood

Your best bet is to get fitted at a golf retail outlet.
You might want to look for a 2-iron hybrid rather than a fairway wood though. The hybrid will be more versatile and you can hit it out of bad lies much better than you can an actual 2-iron.
On a personal note for my golf game, I had 3 birdies on my front nine yesterday, which is the most I have had for 9 holes. I had 1 on the back (on the hardest hole on the back 9, which netted me a skin in my group) to shoot 74. The shame of it is that I left a couple of shots out there can could have easily fired a 70.
