The possibility exists that he may've been placed on waivers, but so does the possibility that they did not check their "facts" and that this is just so much speculative disinformation.

I doubt he was waived. Regier wouldn't waste the 3rd or admit his error this soon. It's hard to believe that we can't even get a 7th...

If Delmore was waived, his name would show up on every transaction wire on every hockey news site. NHL.com's news wire is the most up-to-date source of waiver stuff, and there's no mention of Delmore anywhere.

Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier said Friday night he had been trying to trade Delmore for the past month without success.

"As we got through the holiday season and got through the (trade) freeze (Christmas week), it became more evident that there wasn't a trade there," Regier said.

If that's the case, then I wonder what the odds are that he's claimed......

Don't we have to buy him out to release him? In that case, he will just stay in Rochester.

A buyout would be necessary to facilitate his outright release. Right now that would cost a pretty penny.

I'd rather see if he can get his game in order down in Rochester....

Isn't the buyout 3/4 of the remaining contract?

With 40 games in the books and Delmore in the last year of his deal that is paying him $1 million, that would be around $380,000, right?

I'm hoping that they can figure out a way to move him, but it may not be that bad of an idea merely to buy out his deal should his attitude sour in Rochester.

It's a difference of about 120K for the season at this point. What does the team value more, 120,000 dollars, a live player recallable from the farm, anything that player could garner in trade if he plays on the farm and regains some value? That's what Regier has to consider.

I think it's all up to Delmore.

If he has the same attitude that Hamel had last year, the I could see them holding onto him for the remainder of the season and then not tendering him a qualifying offer.

But, if he is a cancer in the Amerks room, then he has almost no choice but to buy him out unless he's somehow able to move him perhaps in a package deal.

I suspect that he'll put it together in Rochester and we'll see him again shortly. He seemed pretty devastated in an interview the other day. I think he realizes his career is on the line, and Rochester will be a nice environment where he can regroup without the blazing spotlight of the NHL. Posters spew a lot of crap on these boards, most of it false or exaggerated, but here's hoping he succeeds.

It's up to Delmore whether he'll consent to a buyout and what amount of money it would take to do it. Players can only be bought out without their consent (1/3rd of remaining contract for players under 26 years old, 2/3rds for 26 years or older) in the offseason. I'd imagine Delmore would insist on the entire amount since he's going to have trouble getting a new contract and we're looking at a lockout next season. Paul Kruse (wisely) refused an in-season buyout from the Sabres several years ago when he was making ~$600K. The amount of money he would have lost was more than he made in a full season as a minor leaguer. If Delmore is a problem he'll be "loaned" or sold to another organization as was the case with Kruse.
