who are the best players who will be 29 after this season

an thought from the interesting Pronger thread (posted by Mizral) is that Pronger may bolt as soon as he is ufa elligable. If the new CBA lowers the ufa age to 29 from 31, he would be a ufa at the end of next year. What other impact players will be in the same boat? There could be a lot of very good players on the market at the end of next year.

From the oilers, captain Jason Smith and Ryan smith would be ufa.

Todd Bertuzzi, but he was signed to an extension this season.

I believe Peter Forsberg could be affected by this, and become a UFA is the age is lowered by a year or two.

If the UFA minimum age is lowered to 29, it won't be instituted immediately. It is the same situation with any potential salary cap. Nothing that drastic will be implemented overnight, it will be phased in over a couple of years or more.

Miroslav Satan would be but he's under contract for next season. No other Sabres fit the criteria.

Just like someone said, they won't do it right away because it could have huge consequences.

It's like if you say the salary cap is 45 Mill now.

Detroit,Toronto,Rangers,Dallas,St-louis, Philly will all be in deep **** and trying to sell their players with no buyers.

You can't overnight say euh Edmonton...you just lost Ryan Smyth and Jason Smith.

if you can say to the players that this year, there will be a salary cap, then you can say to the teams that your 29 year old guys will be ufa. If you look at baseball and football, when they went to a salary cap, it was for that year. There is a reasonable chance that the cap and the lower ufa age will be simultaneous, hence the purpose of this thread.

If the ufa age gets lowered to 29, who will be the impact players available from your team?

wouldn't the new CBA not come into effect until September? if so all teams have to do is qualify their RFA's that would become UFA's to retain their rights.

i agree that it would be grandfathered in, or all the teams wouldnt agree to it but just for fun its unteresting to look at. im a canes fan, i think jeff oneill is about that age-that would be a big ufa. i know he struggled this year, but i would think he'd get a lot of interest. he may only be 28 though. i think there is a weird gap in the age groups of top players - a lot of the best players are 30+ or 25-.

Dont be so sure....

Pavel Datsyuk(1.5), Steve Yzerman(6), Kris Draper(1.25), Mark Mowers, Brendan Shanahan(6.5), Boyd Deveraux(1.6), Ryan Barnes, Michael Picard, Derek King, Brett Hull(5), Thomas Holmstrom(1.4), Steve Thomas(1), Jason Williams, Kevin Miller, Niklas Lidstrom(10.5), Chris Chelios(6), Matthieu Schneider(3.5), Jiri Fischer(1.072.5) Mathieu Dandenault(1.262.5), Jamie Rivers, Anders Myrvold, Dominik Hasek(6), and Marc Lamothe are all UFA's or RFA's.

That is more then 50M$+ saved if I added correctly. There is also still all the minor leauge players contracts which I could not find out.
