Kasper Revisted

http://rangers.lohudblogs.com/

"according to players who have been working out with Darius Kasparaitis in the area this summer, the 34-year-old defenseman has worked his way back into impressive shape, running and skating every day until a recent trip to his native Lithuania. The defenseman has apparently shed all of the excess weight that he carried into training camp last year, and is intent on staying with the NHL club rather than being returned to Hartford."

Would you want Kasper 05/06 back on the squad?

id def take him over pock or strudwick, if anything he can fetch more depth down the line if he has a good camp, I know the Islanders would snatch him if he was on waivers. I hope he gets dealt for something.

I'd like it to happen, but it won't. If he's really improved that much, trade him.

His salary remains an obstacle. Even if he shows in camp that he's back up to snuff, what do you do with his $3+ mill salary? We've all been taking it for granted that he'll be put back in Hartford exactly because of the cap hit. If he stays up, the Rangers will once again have some major cap issues.

but at the same time if he goes to the minors, hed have to go through waivers, a team like islanders, hawks or Panthers might pick him up.

It is a good news. I was saying many times that Kaspar will be back in training camp, competing for the job. You never have too many defensemen (same as too many pitchers in bullpen). Let's see how the things play out.

Why am I seeing this thread three separate times?

If Kaspar can return to his form of a few years back, I'd certainly welcome him. Some grit and tough defense. Either way, if he's in shape, the competition at camp can only be a good thing.

I wonder waive and send kaspar down the first day of camp...if another team claims him big deal...

he doesn't deserve another shot here....he played ONE good season as a Rangers player...ONE...

The team has moved on and with the way kaspar acted at times last season i wouldn't even bother to let him walk in the dressing room door....

i know it would've been classy to buy him out....but THANKFULLY the rangers aren't classy...

As much as i like Kasper, there is simply no way the Rangers are going keep him because of the cap situation now, even if he has improved

Lets see how he does in camp, if he looks good, although I have a suspicion he wont, but if he does why not give him a shot. I know the salary cap implications, but if he can perform better than say Malik, why not put him out there.

I would welcome Kaspar back with no problems. The NYR's are missing his game on defense, which is tough and physical>So if he looks good in camp i say insert him in, he is also good for the locker roo, good attitude.

Tyutin-Girardi
Staal - Kaspar
Malik/Mara - Roszival

I had a feeling Kaspar just wouldnt pack it in. And i also was thinking about this last night. If Kaspar is healthy he can be that other Defensman the Rangers need. Im just not willing to take that chance though, especially at that price.

As I read other threads, everyone is looking for a hard hitting defenseman. Isn't that what Kaspar is? He's going to have to be awfully good in camp but it's not out of the quuestion.

honestly, if he plays himself onto the opening night roster, i have no problem with him sticking with us. he had a tough year last year on many different aspects. and either wy he was a good guy.

plus now we could ship out malik or mara and he'll take their spot.

Kasper wore the A for us 2 seasons ago. He had rough year last season.

He knows what it will take to make the team.

ehhh somehow this thread has a duplicate.....if a Mod could merge them somehow that would be great.

Kasper deserves the atention imo.

He adds something that is missing from our D.

Thats if he's in shape, healthy etc

if kasper regains his form from 2 years ago, it is a big upgrade to our d corps.....and i am sure if he does play, you will see malik shipped out.....not as strong defensivly as a good kasper

mara - rosi
tuts - girardi
staal - kasper

ex - pock

If he proves in camp that he is physically back to his old self, I like what he brings to the team both leadership and chemistry wise. I would rather see Malik, Mara, or both moved if old-school Kaspar was back (highly unlikely that he is though).

I'm sure Jagr has bigger worries.

With the price tag Kaspar carries and number of defensemen the rangers have under contract, I'd say there's virtually no chance he suits up for the Rangers this season.

If kaspar can play at the level he did the year before last, then why not? The guy was an anchor for us as was a mean SOB to play against. He definitely lost his way and if he comes back in the playing shape he was 2 years ago then he's 3 mil cheaper than what Markov will wind up getting for the same role. Don't count him out just yet

Malik - Roszival
Tyutin - Girardi
Staal - Kaspaitis

Play Gomez on the point on the PP....

could work....
