the caps paying part of jagr's salary is non-transferable as far as i know and that means that any team that trades for him has to pay him $8.3 mil and take the FULL cap hit. his value plummets when his cap hit doubles, but of course eklund doesn't know details like that.

the ONLY scenario the rangers would even consider trading jagr is if someone called up and made an offer that was such an insane overpayment that sather would have no choice but to except it. since no team is gonna call offering to overpay by that much he isn't going anywhere.

Good thing that proposal is never coming our way.
you are nuts if you wouldn't make that deal in a heartbeat...a 35 year old jagr who is 1 or 2 years away from retirement vs a 21 year old ovechkin?? thats one of those insane overpayments that would be too good to pass up.

ovechkin's 1st 2 years in the league on a garbage team with no help has averaged 49goals, 50 assists, 99 points...for 07/08 its a virtual wash in terms of offensive production and then beyond the next 2 years the rangers with ovechkin would be a million times better then the rangers post-jagr. if jagr was 29 that would be different but the fact that you'd potentially have ovechkin for 15 years after jagr retires makes it a no brainer.

Absolutely, there are a handful of guys you have to trade Jagr straight up for...and Ovechkin is one of them.

Seriously... You would be foolish to not trade Jagr ++ for Ovechkin. That would be a good use of picks/prospects IMO. Jagr is solid, but an opportunity to get Ovechkin would be one that you just could not pass up.

Oh god

Yeah cus the Caps are going to overpay like that and Kevin Lowe wants to get fired. Straka for Hemsky? Are you f-ing kidding me? Why would Edmo trade their best young player with a lot of offensive potential for a guy that is one year away from retirement...

I guess thinking is a privilege on these boards.

Eklund is a Flyers fan, he's always a douchebagg about the Rangers, don't take it to heart.
