Is Darren McCarty worth looking at?

Is he worth a look at an incentive laden contract given he is 35 starting with the league minimum 475k? He is the type of role player that is required in the playoffs (ie. Brad May). He is one of those to hate when he is on the other team, but what if he is our team....

I know he has injury issues but if he's hurt, he does not count against the cap...

Thoughts?

Yes, he can play a regular shift and Reed Low cannot.

I'd be really surpised if any new players are added to this team that isn't an enforcer

his hockey days are over...however, if philly's casinos and night clubs need some extra business and/or a band, bring him in

no way...he is like a boxer that just loses it overnight...he is shot as a player & especially as a fighter...dude got his arse beat by may & souray...

plus, some calgary & detroit fans will tell you he isn't dedicated...he is more interested in his band and has been late arriving to games...if he wasn't bankrupt and needed the money he would have retired by now...

any money he does have he should split w/ claude lemiuex because he made a career off of that one avs/wings brawl...

That's exactly the problem. It isn't just that he's on the downside of his career like a Brad May, you have to add to that the fact that he's been injury-plagued and has also seemed disinterested. It's the latter two which keep him from being an attractive option to essentially any team. And in terms of Philly specifically, sadly at this stage in his career he's a poor man's Eager, so I just don't see much point in bringing the guy in. As for the comparison to Reed Low, sure McCarty is a better hockey player (although to be honest not by much anymore), but Reed Low serves a very important purpose that McCarty cannot, and that is handling the legit heavies. All signs point to Cote getting the opportunity, but Low would be able to provide that presence on nights the opposition had a Laraque, Brashear, McGrattan, etc.

He seems like he is one of those players whose bodies are ten years older than what is listed as their birth date. He was a competitor but the Flyers should be set right now in the leadership department. Not the direction the team necessarily needs right now. Plus, I want to see what Downie offers.

I think I'm the only person here who wouldn't mind him here on a very low one-year contract. I think he's the kind of player the team needs for next season. And at one year with a small cap hit, it's low-risk.

You are thinking Roberts and what he brings to the Pens. Mcarty will be invisible here on the ice and in the locker room.
