Rumor- your boy Eklund on Jovo

Rangers and Yotes talking Jovo.
I continue to talk to more and more sources who confirm that there have been talks between the Rangers and Yotes regarding Jovonavski. When I talked to a source close to the Rangers organization and questioned him on the cap implications he said very matter-of-fact, "It can be worked out. There is a way to get a guy like that on board." Then he outlined some interesting scenarios that made sense...Suffice to say the feeling is if you can get an impact player, quite a few of your players that are now highly regarded could be moved out or sent down...

jovo is big time overrated and his contract is terrible...if you are gonna go thru all that trouble to figure out how to get that kind of contract under the cap then there are several guys that i'd be after ahead of him.

his contract does blow, and i used to be very against this idea, but i've kidna changed my stance

here's why

A) we, as a team, have a two year window to win the stanely cup (once Jagr leaves, we're gonna need like 4 years to develop into a championship caliber team.....you know this to be true)

B) we really need a big, physical presence on our blue line...plus Jovocop wan work the PP too...we don't have a pp point man.

C) to get him we'd probably be shipping out Mara and Malik...i'm all for that.

hopefully if we get him, guy stays healthy enough to play 65 games...he could be a tremeandous asset

but yea, 4 more years at 6 mil doesn't sit so well with me either

Kiss any kind of cap flexibility goodbye next off summer.

i doubt its jovo and maybe derek morris the rangers are looking at, they can still use a PP dman. Morris is also physical and can fight.

honestly

Mara > malik = jovocop

but with is contract he is a '

Mara > Malik >>>>> jovo

but i can def see us ship mara and malik out for a better dman...just for less that 6 mill salary.

pretty interesting though, because we have tons of d men, and mara and maliks contract equal jovo's....maybe they are shopping for a partner for staal?

you know, maybe its not such a good idea to trade for jovo when mara, malik, kaspar, straka and shanny come off the books next year (am i missing anyone?) by my calculations, thats about 10 mil..add this to however much the cap goes up next season, and we can fill some holes, while resigning henrik long term AND makign a serious run at Marian Hossa (hold onto to Marcel, that may have to be our sales pitch)

I think Rozsival is a FA too.

Roszival could just as easily be on the move if Jovo comes here. Phoenix might want a better player and Roszival's contract is also up after 07-08 and he stands to be more of an offset moneywise to Jovo's contract than would either of Malik or Mara. If Michal has another season like last and if he goes UFA he will stand to make $4 mil or more and probably for 3-4 years anyway. The other thing is Malik and Jovo were partnered together in Vancouver for a couple years. Like most of the others here though I think I'd keep what we have.

I heard the Rangers were after Chris Chelios and requested a trade for Scotty Neidermeyer. Then they would convince him to retire and then unretire. The Ducks would also throw in Dustin Penner to sweeten the pot. They also were talking about Luongo for Lundqvist straight up. Followed by the Sedin twins for Jagr. Eklunds got nothing on me.

Agreed, Mara is a calming influence for our D. When guys start running around you can count on a Mara shift to settle everyone down. He is not flashy but is solid ans I for one want he on this team this year.

I agree. I for one want to see what Mara can turn into. I think he's on the upswing to his carear. I'd also want the cap space next summer to ensure we can lockup Henke to a long term deal. <scratches head> Though I don't know if it would be worth it for us to burn up that extra cap space resigning Rozsival, which we'd probably let walk if we had Jovo.

What I'd like to see is this. Rangers trade Malik now to someone for some picks. Throughout the season let the youngsters play on defense. As the deadline approaches if the Rangers can't sign Rozsival to an extension and the Kids haven't turned out capable of handling this team in the playoffs, then make a deal for Jovo, which would include sending a young Defenseman to Pheonix. Being that you pick him up at the deadline, the Cap impact wouldn't be more than the space that you get by moving Malik now. Additionally, if the Rangers are going to end up spending 5-6 Million to keep Rozsival, I think I'd rather spend that on Jovo.

A few days ago,the Rangers were trading Jagr to Edmonton.A few days before that, the Rangers were signing Josef Melichar.Yesterday,he wrote the Panthers were up for sale.A few minutes later,it was Tampa Bay.A few minutes later,it was team unknown

When does it ever stop

The last time the Rangers picked up a huge contract it was Jaromir Jagr. That occurred after Sather got the Capitals to pick up 40%-41% of the contract and just Anson Carter was sent in exchange.Unless the CBA has been changed in the last five minutes, that is not allowed in the CBA.$26 million over 4 years is a big nut

Are the Rangers getting back Mueller or the Dogs first round pick in 2008?

The Rangers do have some players who are in line for new contracts beginning in 2008-09 such Henrik Lundqvist,Michal Rozsival and Fedor Tyutin and will need to keep their space to re-sign them.Plus ice the rest of the team.If the Shanahan bonuses roll over to the 08-09 cap, then it means less money for next season

Noooooooooooooo!!!!

Why the hell do we need Jovo? We don't. I'd rather have Jason Strudwick playing. At least he doesn't decimate our cap flexibility.

Hey don't forget about the Dion Phaneuf and Jarome Iginla for Marc Staal, Chris Drury, and a 1st rounder.

By that time Jovo will be on IR with another abdominal surgery

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on either Roszival or Jovanovski

abdominal surgery is a tough thing to come back from- before he was injured Jovo was a good Dman but now he is a shadow of his former self- i wouldnt go for this at all- there are better Dmen out there for trade

This is ridiculous. Jovo sucks.

The Rangers have 2,300 defensman as it is.

I hate this idea. Totally ruins the offseason IMO.

Impossible to sign him with our cap situation. Don't take the rumours serious. Won't happen.
