Ryder will be a UFA after this season.

Me thinks it'll be his last season in Montreal

Report: Canadiens sign Ryder to one-year deal

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=215008&hubname=

The Montreal Canadiens have signed winger Michael Ryder to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ryder scored 30 goals and added 28 assists in 82 games with the Canadiens last season.

In 244 career NHL games, Ryder has totals of 85 goals and 91 assists. In three full seasons in the NHL, the 27-year-old only missed two games due to injuries.

They mistreat him so much.. I also think its his last season with Montreal, unless during the season they decide to offer a long term overpayment.

I wonder what they paid on this one.

I think the organization is higher on Ryder than the fans (and the RDS commentators )

Ryder spent the season on Koivu's wing and on the #1 PP unit. Not precisely a crummy assignment.

So... here we go:

It's a matter of time before someone posts the classic Habs/Sharks proposal:

Ryder + Halak + 1st for Marleau

It will be interesting to see for how much. I guess it will be around 3.5 million.

Blockbuster proposal:

To MTL: Marian Hossa

To SJ: Michael Ryder, Mike Komisarek and MTL 2008 3rd round pick

To ATL: Patrick Marleau and Ty Wishart

Grier will not be traded (IMO)...

I think SJ would do a Marleau for Hossa straight up deal (cuz I think Hossa is much better than Marleau...)

Where's the blockbuster for San Jose in that deal? The Sharks fans would be busting the block with Doug Wilson's head.

Ryder would play on your top line and Komisarek is not far from being a top pairing d-man. Marleau is an UFA. IMO, this is a really solid offer.

Maybe replace Grier with Wishart.

That's also why Atlanta wouldn't do Hossa straight up for Marleau.

With Ryder only signing a one year deal, I guess this means he likely wants to test the UFA market after next season? If I was Dave Nonis I'd be interested, but with him only signed for one season, I wouldn't offer a whole lot.

No offense but I don't think the Nucks have something to offer that the Habs need anyway.

Ryder, Ben Maxwell and Ryan O'Byrne <-> Lukas Krajicek, Luc Bourdon and Alex Burrows.

Canucks would get perfect linemate for the Twins, and a center prospect (we don't have many), and a physical d-man (both local boys).

Habs would get young top 4 defenceman, maybe to play with countryman Hamrlik, fourth (maybe third) line grinder and a top D prospect (both french).

Thoughts?

Yea, unless the Habs want picks/prospects. I can't see the Canucks moving any of their roster players at this point.

Not bad at all. It would suck to loose O'Byrne and Maxwell but I like the fact to complete our top 4 with Krajicek.

Burrows would be great to play with Lapierre on the 4th line.

I'm high on Bourdon. He is the guy who would make this deal possible IMO.

Maxwell will likely be a good player but we have already a lot of young centers. What we need is a potential first line center and Maxwell is not this guy.

O'Byrne could also be expandable since we already have guys like Komisarek and Valentenko.

I'm not quite sure how the Habs benifit from this trade.

The Canucks clearly do. I agree that Ryder would be great with the twins and they could help him reach 40, maybe 45 goals if he doesn't slump. Maxwell, in my opinion, is the best center prospect the Habs have and he'd be a great asset on any team. O'Byrne is huge and can skate, nothing wrong with that, but the Canucks have a lot of good D-Men, it could slow down his developpement.

However, the Habs don't REALLY need Krajicek as they do have Mark Streit and the Frenchies as Bottom 3, and if the Breezer rumors are true, then there'd already be no room for a guy like Gorges or Valentenko. Same goes for Burrows, the Habs have enough 3rd-4th liners. Bourdon seems like a good idea, but I don't think he can convince anyone to make this trade.
