I guess Gainey has really started his cleanup, though I was happy when Audette left, I kinda liked Kilger.

I heard it too on SRC Pre-game - way to go Gainey! I like Kilger, but his play should be much more than it is with that kind of size. Good luck elsewhere Chad, maybe you can resurrect your sagging career in another organization (what would that be, his 4th/5th??)

good luck chad...

with kilger and audette let go, are we opening up space for a guy like Plekanec to play regularly as a 4th liner... do we now have the space to keep gratton, and plekanec in a limited icetime situation where they can earn their icetime/stripes?? Is there any belief out there that we could have gotten a late round pick for kilger?

Go HABS! Go Gainey!

I'm happy to see him go.

The guy had the body to play in the NHL, he just didn't want to put the effort.

The fact this comes just after Plekanec played his 1st NHL game might be a sign of things to come. With Kilger gone (and Begin hurt for a very long period), we would have 5 centers with Plekanec, Perreault, Juneau, Koivu and Ribeiro. Perreault and Juneau seem like the odd men out in this picture. Even if none of them go before the trading deadline, I'm pretty sure at least one of the two will go between now and that deadline.

Plekanec looked better in his first NHL game IMO than Perreault, Juneau and Kilger. So I don't know. Don't want to get my hopes too high, but I sure like the way things are shaping up, the dead weight being getting rid of and some room opening up for the youngsters.

If you keep in mind the fact that Gainey said that he want to acquire 2 veterants, it can make you think otherwise though.

I would like to see some hard-working vets that had a great carreer and that can still give something to the steam, la Doug Gilmour. These guys are great example for the youngster. We need a D and a forward like that. One D that could help Mike Komisarek would be much appreciated..

According to TSN he already cleared and is eligible to play with Hamilton.

Quote:
Gainey said other players who are not performing up to their capabilities could also be rubbed out by the organization's young prospects. He said Chad Kilger, who has been a healthy scratch in four straight games, recently cleared waivers and is eligible to be sent down to the minors.

BG gave him a chance and he didn't make the most of it like Ryder, Ribs and Ward are doing with theirs.

I would rather Plekanec in Montreal over Kilger. At least he can play both ends, is young and can score to.

==========================================

ok i got a few questions

1. kilger cleared waivers so will he be sent down to hammy or bought out?didnt bob give him a new 2 yr contract this yr?

2.wasn't it stated that Plekanec was not in montreal plans because he was to small ..i remember it being said by jullien at the start of the yr...so why is he in montreal now?

1. Could be either at this point. We'll see. Should know by Monday.

2. No. Julien was singing praises for Plekanec's game and progression. He's considered among Montreal's better prospects.

Ward can accomplish that job way better right now.

He also seems to have more heart and determination than Chad "the soft man" Kilger.

Good riddance if some team want to take him.Look like BG has started his spring clean up .

Cleared waivers?

Honestly, I'd be shocked. The Rag$, while probably not interested in giving anything for him, have always coveted the big guy (Sather in particular) and have asked about him on more than a few occasions from what I've heard. For them to let him go through waivers would be a shock to me.

I mean, what better fit could there be? Another big guy who's under-achieved. Shame he doesn't have a $6 million dollar salary or he'd be a shoe-in.
