I hope this doesn't piss Avery off and decides to turn it on only when he wants to. I really hope he'll be professional about the whole deal.

Yes. Absolutely. All he had to do was submit the 1.3m, and say that's what we think he's worth. Arbitrator didn't need to see anything else, and has been posted on this board, according to the CBA, CAN'T look at anything else.

Doesn't matter who released what to Brooks. The fact that it was said unnecessarily was the problem.

Anyways... it's done, it's over. Sign the deal... start the season.
Let Avery score a ton on our way to the Cup, and then he can give the ol' F--k you to Sather and go become a Ranger-killer on another team.

Brooks has to be the king of propoganda. Let's sign Avery.

According to the poll I ran over 75% of us though it would be in the 2.0-2.5 range so its a little under from what we thought which is great for the blueshirts.

Si. Exactimento!!!

Now Sather needs to sign the dotted line with no hesitation and show Avery that we want him back

And by the way theres nothing indicating it was Sather, Avery or Brooks that released those briefings.

it's not about the releasing of the briefings.

it's brooks, a.k.a. the "pro-player, pro-nhlpa schill" who jumped all over sather for those briefings said.

This is perfect for the Rangers and Avery, assuming the Rangers accept the award.

Avery is one good season away from a $22.5 mil/5 year deal (from someone). What better motivation could there be for Avery to bring his A game every night?

I honestly think the way he played after being acquired last season, and his playoff work was worth more than last year's salary, but maybe that's just me.

All along I said Avery was worth 1.8 and that's pretty close to what he got. As long as Avery keeps up what he showed last year, I'd expect the Rangers to start talking an extension once they are allowed to in January. Very happy with the number for him as well as Marcel Hossa.

Now we have everything pretty much set. Maybe Sather will make a tinker here or there to his roster now that he knows exactly what numbers he's working with, but I'd expect us to go into camp with pretty much what we have right now.

Only another month and a half...sigh.

Per Sam:

"UPDATE, 1:10 p.m.: Moments after I posted that last part, the Rangers made it official by signing Avery. “We are pleased to have Sean under contract and are looking forward to him returning with the same passion and enthusiasm he brought to our team last year,” stated Glen Sather. “He is a terrific competitor, who we expect to play a significant role in a successful season.”"

Sather is too funny

I predicted $1.8 mil...only $100,000 off!

Very fair price IMO...I figured he'd get $2 mil at the most, $1.9 is just about right.

We can look forward to Avery playing his ass off for a long-term contract next season, most likely on the open market though. I just get that feeling that he's probably going to test the market and get a nice chunk of cash.

arbitration is just like any court case. you have to give some presentation.

as for brooks, my problem(and it was the biggest one i had with him) was his "opinion" that the rangers offer was "laughably low", when in fact that they did this on purpose so they could get exactly this kind of ruling. that's my issue.

Sam's blog is reporting that the Rangers will sign the deal.

And stop whining about what Slats said in the brief. Every player who has ever gone to arbitration sees very simialr things in the team's brief. On NHLHomeIce on XM last night, they mentioned that the details of the arbitration brief are almost never revealed for this very reason. Quotes are taken out of context and escalated beyond thier meaning or intent. Avery choose this path, and now he needs to man-up.

What? Jesus people, how can you not understand how arbitration works after all this time.

You're all beyond help.

well lets say he does bring it every night... he probally wont be alive to recieve that 22.5 mil/5 year reward cause somebody is gonna break his neck because the way he plays. Dont get me wrong i love i wish we had him... but he is gonna end up hurt, there is no doubt in my mind.

Wow it didn't take long for the rangers to accept. This is turning into a very good day. Now we can watch him torment the Isles and devils goalies for another year.
