Makes all kinds of sense from a Blues POV. They already had a surplus of defensemen at Peoria and really didn't want to have to send one to Alaska ... but could have used another center down there as we only had 4. Fitzgerald struggled at times last year and he was getting passed on the depth chart as a result. Hopefully in Manitoba he regains the form we thought he'd show when he was drafted.

I'd like to hear what Canucks fans have to say about Guenette.

The fact he's played two seasons in the ECHL without an AHL callup says alot.

We actually got something for Guenette? The guy is really freaking bad, I think the only reason we drafted him initially was his past chemistry with MA Bernier (who sucks even worse). He's small, inconsistent, and I'm fairly sure he's never even seen a game with the Moose. I think he's an under PPG in the ECHL, which isn't great for a guy who is supposed to be an 'all out offensive player'.

I could see Guenette making the AHL in a limited capacity, but he has no chance whatsoever of making the NHL at all, not even as a call-up.

Fitzgerald SOUNDS tough and mean, but I'm not going to hold my breath on someone who was dealt for Guenette.

So ... we traded one of our guys who was (and will likely go on to do) nothing major for one of your guys who was (and will likely go on to do) nothing major?

I'm marking this day on the calendar, because surely we'll all be remembering it for years to come.

I'm sure this is the day that Blues fans will look back upon and reflect saying...what is the move that really turned our franchise around? Signing Paul Kariya or trading for FP Guenette?

Likewise, Canuck fans will ponder who will have more meaning in the coming years to their roster...Roberto Luongo or Zach Fitzgerald?

Can't imagine why the blues would want Guenette..

As for Fitzpatrick.. sounds like he is a pretty tough guy..

You guys know there's no one badder or meaner in the league than Rory.

I'm assuming you meant Fitzgerald ... yeah, he's tough - but if he literally had cement in his skates, I'm not sure anyone would notice any difference in his on-ice mobility.

Awesome!!!!!! I am a huge FitzGerald fan from his Seattle days and I have been advocating that the Canucks get this guy in their system for a long time. Fitz is going to be great in the Canucks system.

It is a very strange day when FP Guennette is traded for any return whatsoever. Fitz was a beast in the WHL. However these are more prospects for their AHL teams at this point.

Fitzgerald might see some NHL ice. He gives us the option of dressing a legitimate tough-guy. Having Cowan as your main threat in that regard isn't exactly intimidating (and no knock on Cowan since he does great for his size in my opinion). The Canucks needed a heavy-weight option (thus the earlier rumoured interested in Godard I assume).

I think he's willing, but not necessarily a legit heavy weight ala DJ King.
