This is just a proposal that I thought that may benefit both teams. First things last, I am a Kings fan first and foremost and love Lappy, but it seems to me that with him being a UFA this coming year, I think he may get dealt.
I looked at some of the other boards and noticed that Montreal needs a right handed center to take over for Juneau on the 3rd line.
There is no question that LA has been stung on defense this year. Adding a guy like Rivet, who plays with an edge and is decent offensively (think another Aaron Miller), would be huge coming down the stretch run. He is 29 years old, 6'3" 201lbs. The main kicker is that we would probably have to pay about 1.25 million left on his 2.5 million dollar contract. Lappy makes $1million, so figure they pay him $500,000.
Main reason for this deal is, LA has a ton of 3rd and 4th liners. Any of Chartrand, Belanger, Pirnes, etc. can step in. Avery is going to be doing what Lappy does now for years to come. Also, with a big forward like Karlsson probably two years away, and Kanko about the same, our forward depth is not an issue.
Montreal probably wouldn't be interested in Lappy since he's coming off a concussion. He needs to be a 100% and who knows if he'll ever be an effective agitator again. That being said, if we can get a Rivet for him, than do it.
I agree all the way. IF Mont would deal us Rivet for Lappy *or some grouping of picks and players going each way with the primarys being them two* then, as much as I love Lappy, unless he went to the team and were willing to sign a contract for roughly the same dosh he makes now, I would let him go to Mont, where he wants to play if he isn't on the Kings. (or so he said when asked at tip a king."if you weren't on the Kings and couldn't play here, where would you rather play"? Lappy, "I would try to play in LA anyways but, if that weren't possible then Montreal I might like to play at".)
