That's bunk.

So what is to stop those guys from doing the same thing Penner did and wait for an offer sheet and make 4+ mil somewhere else. You know they will think they are worth just as much, and 'if Penner got that big of a contract'. Not matching ONLY says the DUCKS won't pay you that much, not that they can't get it somewhere else.

The ducks will have to offer them a fat contract next year, or they will test the market, since if worked for Dustin. For Getz and Perry already have a cup in their pocket, now they'll want to secure their future with cash.

I agree, since bozo Lowe set the new mark by signing Penner for over 4 mil, then Perry and Getz are both worth more since they are already better players with more of an upside than Dustin.

It is too bad isn't it. Burkie was first in line to raid Pronger from the OIL when for no apparent reason he decided to leave town.

Get your facts straight. Lowe approached Burke at the 2006 draft, not the other way around.

That's true enough; Getzlaf and Perry will get more than Penner. But if the Ducks had matched the offer sheet, there would be less money to re-sign Getzlaf and Perry. This really speeds things up. Good, young RFAs will have to be taken care of more quickly, or teams will risk losing them to offer sheets.

Well our not matching may have a small efect. At least I'm hoping it will.

The team could contend that "that pay is an aberration and we won't pay it." And if Perry and Getzlaf are interested in staying (who knows if they are or aren't) they'll know that they'll have to take a lower payscale to stay in Anaheim. The Ducks could also say that offer sheets will still be rare, and there are potentially a lot of good RFAs next year to occupy whatever few teams are considering offer sheets.

It may have little to no effect, but there's the possibility it's good, versus us matching automatically says "this pay scale is acceptable, start negotiations from here."

LoL give it up man... We've tried telling them that 100,000,000,000 times. It just doesn't get through. Burke even told Lowe he's taking the offer off the table in a day so Lowe agreed.

I don't know if this has crossed any of your minds yet, but here's a thought that I had and posted on the Kings board:

Now that I think about it more, it seems more and more reasonable that Burke waited so long to decline the Penner offer sheet so as to make it inadmissible as evidence in the Cammalleri arbitration hearing. Now, before you ask why in the world Burke would want to do his rival's GM a favor, consider that Burke has Getzlaf and Perry to re-sign next Summer, and both will probably be in a situation not unlike Cammalleri right now. By keeping the Penner contract out of the picture long enough, it helped to keep Cammalleri's arbitration award low, which, in turn, will help Burke re-sign Getzlaf and Perry to reasonable amounts. Burke is one seriously ingenious GM if that's what he was doing.

That does make a ton of sense. I think he did it also because he wasn't going to go Kevin Lowe any favors by quickly declining to match/matching.
