Brooks on Pock

The Blueshirts are just under $49 million on the $50.3 million season salary cap. Their 23-player roster includes two goaltenders; eight defensemen (Marc Staal, Jason Strudwick and Andrew Hutchinson in, Thomas Pock out); and 13 forwards (Artem Anisimov, Ryan Callahan, Marcel Hossa, Ryan Hollweg and Colton Orr in, Brandon Dubinsky and Nigel Dawes out.)

I read this in today's NY Post; Pock is out of what? I don't understand.

He's just saying that he's not including Pock in the lineup when he's speculating on the Rangers cap situation. As in, Pock being waived instead of Hutchinson, etc etc.

I don't think Brooks has any inside scoops on how the Rangers will deal with the extra players on D, he's just speculating.

I'm not sure I like his guess at the lineup with pock being out but that is for another thread. I am very interested to see who actually gets the spots for this season when all is said and done though. All the speculation and rumors are enough to make you

Agreed levitate...

he's usually off when it comes to who's going to be in the lineup.

Why in the **** would we drop Pock anyway? The guy is a proven commodity here in NY and imo played rather well when called upon. No way I want Andrew Hutchinson in there over Tomas Pock... no way.

i don't think anything is written in stone till camp. Hutchinson could be a bust and Staal might not be ready. I like Pock alot, and i hope we don't let him go, because i have feeling that we will come back and bit us in the ass if he goes to another team.

Uncle Larry's pulling at straws again. There's no reason to assume Pöck gets dropped before Hutchinson or even Staal prove they can play. Nothing will be decided until preseason is well underway.

i think to start the season (if no one is traded or anything) our starting defenders will be, in no particular placement

Rozsival Malik
Tyutin Mara
Girardi Hutchinson

extra will be Staal with Pock down in HFD- Staal could grab the spot from Hutchinson who would be relegated to PP time until Staal shows he can QB a NHL PP unit

Well, in terms of Hutchinson, I think he would be in over Pock. I'd have to believe that Sather traded away Matt Cullen for a reason other than just salary.

This could all be remedied if we dump Marek Malik's 2.5 million for a bag of pucks to any team that is depleted, like the Islanders etc.

Tryouts are where these decisions are made, not in Larry's imagination.

Why in the **** would they scratch Staal and use him as the #7? He'll be in Hartford if he doesn't make the team.

Staal will definitly not be the 7th defensman if he can't make the Team. He will be sent down and Pock will be the 7th defensman. Nothing worse for a players development than not playing.

I think there's a chance that on day 1 that Staal is the 7th defenseman...though I don't think it'll be long term, nor do I think it likely. But if Staal is close and they want to see how he does in a few more practices, they may keep him around before they send him down.

Camp will decide what happens and who plays, not Larry.

Rangers will play Staal opening night, brass feels that they need to have at least one rookie for their home opener like they did with Dawes last year.

I think the Rangers will do what allows them to keep the most assests. Players like Staal will end up starting the season in the minors because, although they may be better then some of the players on the NYR, they can be optioned to the minors without passing through waivers. Even if the team gets off to a slow start, the players that can be optioned to HFD will be round robined between NYR and HFD. You will only see players placed on waivers when they've proven themselves completely incapable, or the team is in a losing streak or is showing a serious flaw where a youngster might be able to help.

Their 23 man rost could very well look like this.

Hossa Gomez Jagr
Shanny Drury Avery
Straka Dubinsky Prucha
Hollweg Betts Moore/Callahan
Orr

Malik Rozsival
Girardi Tyutin
Mara Strudwick
Hutchinson Pock

Lundqvist
Valiquette

Have you people seen Hutchinson play defense? Pock >> Hutchinson by a mile in terms of D. And Pock has a nice shot from the point. I'm not even sure why Hutchinson is a consideration.

Isn't Pock's contract one -way? It was a two year pro deal that I thought was one-way. I could be wrong. Either way, there is probably another move coming, particularly with Kaspar still in the fold.

Doesn't matter whether Pöck's contract is a two-way contract, either way, he has to pass through waivers to be sent to Hartford and another team would take him.

I hope not...I dont remember at all how Hutchinson plays but Pock played very, very average at best defense....if he is really that much better at defense then Hutchinson then I don't want him anywhere near the lineup.

pock is 100x better than hutchinson. Hutchinson couldn't even get a full-time D job on Carolina.. and that's saying alot. Atleast Pock can play defense when needed.
