Would you really be surprised if the Oilers finish out of the playoffs and in the lottery? I don't think any of us would be.

Bertuzzi makes a mistake on ice, but Dany Heatley killed a guy while he was speeding and nobody seems to care, he gets a free pass..
Go home kid.

This is the sentiment that gets to me about Penner leaving on the offer sheet. The Ducks' org took the time to scout and unknown. Sign him and then take time to develop him. The coaches didn't apply too many minutes to him(Penner) nor Perry and Getz. Two years and you can tell the three players are still growing in their profession. The org took the time to develop them at the right pace even if it costs them in the present because the value will last longer with their future. Alas, all of that patience goes for naught. I mean, you can't blame Penner for not taking the excessive amount of money he'll be signing for, but that doesn't also mean I have to like it.

You're right. He put both of their lives in danger while sober, which in a lot of ways makes him more of an idiot.

I think your getting the lottery confused with missing the playoffs. Only the bottom 5 teams are entered in to the lottery.

The 14 teams that did not make the playoffs are given a weighted percentage to win the Draft Lottery. The team with the lowest amount of regular season points will be given the greatest percentage to win lottery and therefore, the greatest chance to win the first overall pick in the Draft.

When did that change? Last year it was bottom 5, the Oilers missed out on the lottery because they won there last game of the year.

I find it ironic that your name is facts because you need to get them straight.

Anaheim Ducks acquired by Brian Burke:

Travis Moen - Trade '05
Scott Niedermayer - FA '05
Teemu Selanne - FA '05
Joe DiPenta - FA '05
Kent Huskins - FA '05
Francois Beauchemin - Trade '05
Todd Marchant - Waivers '05
Sean O'Donnell - Trade '06
Chris Pronger - Trade '06
George Parros - Trade '06
Ric Jackman - Trade '06
Brad May - Trade '07
Mathieu Scheinder - FA '07
Todd Bertuzzi - FA '07

Yep, he inherited a whole team that had the Stanley Cup waiting for him. It's a wonder Bryan Murray ever left this team.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember. All non-playoff teams can "win the lottery," but you only move up 4 spaces. By the Oilers getting 6th, if they had won it means they pick 2nd, not 1st.

All 14 teams are involved in the draft lottery, it's only teams 1-5 that have a chance to get the #1 pick because a team can only move up four spots. Theoretically the Colorado Avalanche could have won the draft lottery but only would have gotten the 10th overall pick. See how that works?

You guys could be right, I never realized that it worked that way. Thanks for the clarification.

I don't think the two are anywhere near comparable. Bertuzzi pursued Moore with a clear intent to hurt him. Maybe he did'nt mean to hurt him as bad as he did, but he clearly had intent to hurt him. There was no intent by Heatly to hurt himself or his teammate. Criminally, if Moore had died the charge would have probably been manslaugter because of the aforementioned intent.

All i am going to say is Heater is lucky to be in the NHL for killing his friend and teammate. Over the years, elite sports celebs have their own set of rules compared to us norm folks. The same can be said to Bertuzzi to some extent.

Oh, weeping, creeping jesus. Offseason + Bertuzzi + Canadian team fans = threads that turn into horrorshows in three pages or less.

Really? Because I can't think of even one person who'd agree that it's a better idea to drive inebriated rather then sober. You must know some ****ed up parents.

Snyder's parents saved Heatley's arse, big time.

It was not a Canadian team fan that made the comparison but don't let that little fact get in the way of your rant.

It is entertaining reading Edmonton fans looking at Penner like some kind of hockey God that will take hockey in Edmonton to the next level.

Yep, they don't realize how talented was the team he played for and how crappy is his next team.

But we've all seen how great some of them are at predicting their new players' performance. What with Joffrey "40 goal" Lupul playing for the Edmonton "300 goals" Oilers.
