Stan Mikita's Donuts

hey guys, i was watching Wayne's World today (best movie ever behind Slapshot) and i've always wondered, is there really a Stan Mikita's Donuts in Illinois?

sadly, no. i did an extensive search once before a chicago trip and came up with nothing. once up there, i asked around. everyone said no. i was told that the gas works (the club where he meets cassandra) is a real place though.

I work in Aurora (where it was filmed) and I'll ask around.

It is actually a Tim Hortons that was turned into Stan Mikita's for the movie only. So the place does exist, but its nothing special.

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a reference to Tim Hortons.

Donut shop named after old-time hockey player. What else could it be?

The large statue of Stan Mikita that stood atop the fictional Stan Mikita's Donuts in the movie Wayne's World now sits at the end of MacGyver star Richard Dean Anderson's driveway. The statue was offered to Mikita, but he said, "It's a nice likeness, but what the hell would I do with it?"

That site has a few mistakes on it, but that's fantastic that Macgyver owns the Stan Mikita statue!

This is from IMDB.com:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105793/trivia

The donut shop is owned by ex Chicago Blackhawk Stan Mikita, a reference to a popular chain of Canadian donut shops created by hockey legend Tim Horton. The police officer in the shop is Officer Koharski. This could be a reference to the National Hockey League referee Don Koharski who was told by New Jersey Devils coach Jim Schoenfeld to "have another donut, you fat pig" after a playoff game.

Gas Works was a club in Toronto (where Myers grew up) which featured live bands (mostly rock music). It closed about 15-20 years ago.
