First observation: Most jerseys suck :-(.

I don't know yet, to how many games I'll be going, but a pretty safe bet is Frankfurt - Hannover in Nov.

Patrick Lebeau is leaving Frankfurt to try and get a contract in the NHL.

There might have been a chance right after the lockout, when the NHL-teams were signing everyone they could find and Lebeau was coming of his fantastic 94 point season, but now it's too late.

I have a hard time believing that he would have made the final roster back then, as he wasn't good enough for the top 6 and not suited for a defensive role, but a contract would have been possible. This time it's different, he isn't nearly as good as he was back then. He might get a tryout somewhere, but I see no chance of making the NHL.

I'm totally shocked, disappointed and mixed up. Switched on the radion while driving home from work and it was the first message on the sports news

How glad I am that I've thanked him personally for all the years after the season ending cermonies last season.
Damn ... didn't know how rigght I was

And how I hate all the Lebeau bashers here around celebrating his leave in obscure expectation of a new superstar that will not come ... rather sooner then later they'll be amazed that a player of his class combinded with the integrity of his charactre won't come around any time soon again

Anyway .. guess Lebeau decided to stay overseas with his family when he (maybe) heared he has the chance to participate at a camp .. if he'll make it or not doesn't matter for him - cause I think he'll quit then - or at least after the upcoming season

take care Pat

It's going to be a tough season without Hackert, Lebeau and Kelly.
No creative moments, no proper set-up man, ...
Unless Norris signs Mr. X.

as much as i dislike the lions and the whole city in general, lebeau was a nice player and i alwas enjoyed to see him on the ice. it's not just a loss for the lions, it's a loss for the whole DEL.
but maybe if he can't find a spot for him in the NHL, he might return to germany. hopefully not frankfurt though.

I think a return to another German team is prohibited by some clause in the breakup contract.
To my knowledge such a clause was part of the contract when Hackert left to Grand Rapids...

But my hypothesis could be wrong if the idea about the "Lions wanted to get rid of Lebeau" is true...

His past two years have been to injury-prone.
A Lebeau aged 25 in the today's NHL would be a great addition but...

Therefore I can't stand all the "what-kind-a-great-young-players-we-can-add-with-the-new-cap-room"blabla going on on our boards ..

.. oh well yeah I played one good year and now I'm almost packing and heading towards Mannheim after my 1 year contract expired!

Have a nice day

edit: Lebeau was that commited to Frankfurt and the team it was kind of unique in the league and exeptionally in Frankfurt

But don't forget that Lebeau's agent has tested the market after the 2005-06 season...

For Dan: Link to the first Lions' pictures of the season:

Some Content of Lebeau's breakup contract
- He isn't allowed to get back to the DEL in 2007-08 unless he signs with the Lions.

- On the other hand the Lions waived off their right for a transfer fee if Lebeau actually signs in North America.

Quote:

Dear Toni,

you know IF we sign the new so much discussed star Lebeau won't come back even if he wants to.

I'll miss him so much .... and I promise so much more who aren't aware of the loss right now will too. How excited everyone was all the time when he put his skates on the ice awaiting something special to happen.
And please heaven forbid a frustrated 1st rounder that mostly didn't show up in the DEL.

But ummm .. excuse me Dan .. you finally got rid off your modem?!?! Did I read this correctly?!?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!! A miracle happened! Welcome to the modern world my friend!

cheers !

I think I won't change my mind of Lebeau's depature.

I try hard to forget about the past 1,5 seasons and remember the magic Lebeau of 03-04 and in particular 04-05, when our first line was outscoring everyone (besides Mannheim in the Semis )...

He was injury prone ... anyway

Lets talk 'bout it having a beer during an intermission when the first game days are in the books ...

I suppose you have already learned that I prefer cider to this unswallowable beverage in the arena wrongly named beer.

Yes, you heard right....blasting out of the #$#$#$# stoneage baby! And the simple reason why you may ask? To watch the Lions on Premiere! Otherwise I'd still be on dial up with the cavemen.
