Hossa or Kovvy?

I keep hearing about how Hossa is a UFA next season and how he wants to leave Atl because of allergies.

Is there a decent chance we can pick him up before the season starts? If so can we keep Getz and still get him?

Is it WORTH losing Getz?

Lastly what is Kovalchucks situation and who would you rather have?

I think Hossa is more talented but I think Kovvy would do much better in the Ducks system. He plays rougher and digs.

The chances of getting either are slim to none.

there are about 10 players in the league where it would be worth losing Getz for, from a ducks end...I don't believe it's either of those two, even though they are excellent players.

10? In my mind, around 5. No exaggeration.

Whats the deal w that? I simply asked if it would even be possible to obtain Hossa if Atl plans on letting him go before he hits UFA status since he wants to leave anyway.

And just a simple question of opinion on who would be better here between Kovvy and Hossa. I know theres no way Kovvy is leaving but its just a question of opinion on skill.

Not exactly, what I meant was that there are only about 5 players in the league that I'd trade Getzlaf for regardless of salary.

Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Hossa, Heatley...no.

I would trade him for:

Crosby
Ovechkin
Malkin
Bergeron
Kopitar
Iginla

I know Getzlaf had a great playoff run and all, but let's not get too far ahead of things here. He looks like he'll become a superstar, but he might just become another really good #1 center (Marleau). Off the top of my head, a few guys are all 30-or-under and arguably have better potential/production that Getzlaf (who is 22) has/will have:

Jarome Iginla (30 years old)
Marian Hossa (28)
Roberto Luongo (28)
Simon Gagne (27)
Joe Thornton (27)
Vincent Lecavalier (27)
Dany Heatley (26)
Henrik Zetterberg (26)
Jason Spezza (24)
Jay Bouwmeester (23)
Ilya Kovalcuk (23)
Thomas Vanek (23)
Patrice Bergeron (22)
Dion Phaneuf (22)
Evgeni Malkin (21)
Alexander Ovechkin (21)
Sidney Crosby (19)
Anze Kopitar (19)

If I sat down and really looked over the different teams, I'm sure there are a couple more names that could get mentioned. If Getzlaf has a breakout season, this list gets much smaller. If he stays in the 60-80pt. range then he'll still be in the category of many of the names above.

But from an ANAHEIM prospective why would they trade him for half of those players?

I would place guys like Kopitar, Malkin, Bergeron, Spezza, Kovalchuk in the debateable category. The fact that Spezza cruised through the East in the playoffs only to be completely owned in the finals kind of shows how much harder it is for west players to put up offense. Would Ottawa fans trade Spezza for Getz straight up? Unlikely but why would the Ducks in turn trade Getzlaf for him and so on? He's a better rounded player than most of those guys you listed, and there's no reason for the Ducks to trade him for a guy like Luongo either.

Those are all good players but an argument can be made that Getzlaf makes the most sense long term for the Ducks franchise...other than Crosby.

Guys like Vanek and Spezza may outscore Getzlaf in their careers but Getzlaf is going to be that first line center that does everything for his team.

I would take Kovy between him and Hossa. When a russian's got heart you gotta take it!!!! haha He's younger and shows leadership, when he's not getting crapped on by Hartley. (still don't get why he's such a target of his coach )

But seriously, I don't think atlanta would be foolish enough to let Kovy go. He's way too important to them. The ducks would have to send a crazy package their way. (getz and beauch +, for example) The Ducks can't let go of getz either. I'm sure that's the starting point though... The thrash can't let him go. It would really hurt (ruin) their franchise.

No. Ottawa would not trade Spezza for Getz straight up.

Question was already posed (sort of). What is Getz gonna get next year, given the crazy Penner raise? Spezza will likely be up to $6.5M (maybe $7M). What will Getz be up to, now that Penner got a "raise" up to $4.3M (courtesy of Lowe)?

Hearing that Burke is looking for some firepower up front now that he has a great goalie in Brz, a vet in Marchant, and a good 1st rnd pick to bargain with has made my mind race.

Then hearing that Hossa wants to leave bc of allergies there and his contract is expiring makes me want to call Burke personally and tell him to HOP ON IT!

You got Burkes cell number iLau?

Then I was just pondering who I would rather have between Kovvy and Hossa and I think that Kovvy's agression would suit Burkes system better.

So how exactly would we be fitting in a 6+ million player? I guess Kovalchuk could fit if we included Getzlaf, who looks to make 4 or so the season after next, while Kovalchuk would be signed for 3 more seasons. But why in the world would we want to do that?

If Scott Niedermayer does not return we should be able to afford Hossa. Can you think of a better available replacement for Selanne than Hossa?

I would trade Getz for Kovvy in a heartbeat.

Why do it? Because imagine this PP lineup.

Hossa
Getzlaf
McDonald
Pronger
Schnieder
