The OHA champion Junior Canadiens played the Northern Ontario champion Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds in anothe playdown leading to the Eastern Final against Quebec. After the first two games were split in the Soo, the series resumed at the Montreal Forum:

Ya, thats, I guess youd call it dreadful?. 20-3. That they'd managed to make a game of it earlier in the series is actually amazing.

The series underlined the major flaw in the CAHA developmental model of the era.

Basically the Northern Ontario region was losing the better players to the central region. The expansion of the OHA to Ottawa and the Cornwall franchise in the Q kept the Ottawa District players within the region.

Conversely the Junior Canadiens in the OHA were a stacked team of players from Quebec to the detriment of the Q.

That the Soo actually won a game under the circumstances is as you write, amazing.
