The old missing trainig camp has so much to do with it. But I suspect he is just having an off year. He may turn it around big time here in the new year.
That depends on who is "everyone". Some people thought he was the second coming; some people thought he was a great young talent. He is still young, and he is still a great talent. But as the other posters pointed out, he is:
a) suffering the consequences of missing the training camp
b) having a bad year
Kind of tough to determine whether he is "as good" as everyone thought though, wouldn't you say?
Anyone have stats on players that held out long enough to miss camp and a few games of the season and jumped right back into the game and played well? Seems like it _always_ leads to a poor performance.
I think he's started, just recently, to look better. He's still not playing the way he did last year though, even when he wasn't scoring.

how about Lemieux in 2000/2001 when he amassed 76 points in 43 games ?
i know it's different because he didn't hold out and of course whe're talking super-mario here but still...
i believe the so-called superstars have greater problems in gaining their pace when they missed training camp. they get the most responsibilities on the team and also have high expectations by the fans and their teammates to fulfill whereas some lesser-known players will receive less ice-time and special-team duty and therefore are not so important for the franchise (besides: Gaborik IS the Minnesota Wild)
I think it all depends if the team is expecting a lot from the player.
Example A : Brad Stuart and Evgueni Nabokov hold out. They come back and have a horrible season. Both.
Example B : Comrie and Havlat aren't asked to lead their respective team in scoring : they play OK.
I think a large amount of it has to do with the holdout but on top of that I don't think he's found the right chemistry with whoever he's playing with yet.
Gaborik wants to get traded to Colorado for crying out loud.
you've gotta quit trolling
every one of your posts consists of "well he just wants to play in Colorado" or "Talk to me when your team is winning" or "Avs Rule :p "
add something to a thread, instead of padding your post count with mindless avs dribble
back on topic.. the last wings\minny game. You could see Gaborik was like "on the edge" of breaking out. He had SOOO many chances in that game that just fell apart. I see him being slow for a bit, but he will pick up. And I bet he has a Helluva 2nd half. But, like Anaheim, i think last season was an anomaly. And I dont expect Minny to make the play-offs. Too many early season Loses in comparison to other teams winning. That may hurt Gaborik's "stats" but it obviously wont hurt him as a future star.
I really wanted Detroit to fork over the first rounders for an offer sheet. Hes one of the players i wouldnt lose sleep over losing 4 first rounders.
oh well maybe I find an explaination on why the leafs are hated that much.... Are their fans all that dumb? If yes, I found out why they're on everyone's blacklist.
