2:00 PM ET : Thrashers @ Habs - "I felt Good", Saku Koivu -

THRASHERS @ HABS - 'I FELT GOOD' - Saku Koivu - Game Preview

TV: RDS
Radio: CJAD-800, Team-990 Postgame
Date: January 3rd, 2004
Time: 2:00 PM ET, 5:00 PM PT

RDS Lineup News
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/scoreboard]ESPN Scoreboard[/url]

After missing the team's 1-1 draw in Dallas on New Years Eve due to the supposed injury, Captain Koivu hopes to return to action tonight in Montreal, when the Thrashers and Habs revisit each other for the second time in five days. If Koivu is to return, he may see some much needed offensive support from a pair of his most skilled teammates. Richard Zednik and Jan Bulis have both had strong careers when it comes to facing the Thrashers. Zednik's 16 points in 19 games are impressive, and for Bulis, posting 10 points in 16 matches is another strong statistic for the speedy winger.

If Claude Julien has his way, it's likely that the 25-year-old Bulis will see quite a bit of ice time tonight. With the always dangerous Ilya Kovalchuk and Slava Kozlov in town, the speed of Niklas Sundstrom and Jan Bulis may be far more effective in shutting down the pair, than the older, slower legs of Joe Juneau and Andy Dackell.

Habs Injuries

Saku Koivu : Game time decision.
Benoit Gratton: Concussion.
Steve Begin: 2.5 Months. Shoulder Surgery, Nerve Damage.

Probable Netminders

Jose Theodore vs. Pasi Nurminen

My Habs Lineup :

20 Zednik -- 11 Koivu -- 73 Ryder
38 Bulis -- 71 Ribeiro -- 17 Ward
35 Plekanec -- 90 Juneau -- 37 Sundstrom
15 Langdon - 25 Kilger - 25 Dackell

79 Markov -- 43 Brisebois
44 Souray -- 08 Komisarek
51 Bouillon -- 52 Rivet

Key Matchup : Kovalchuk vs. Bulis

vs.

Make us proud, Jan. Shut the big man down.

Players to Watch:

Jason Ward

Patrice Brisebois

Just curious. Why are we watching Breezeby tonight? To see how many times he gift-wraps a turnover to Kovalchuk in his own zone?

As for Koivu, I don't trust him when he says he's ready to come back. I'd take the safe route and sit him at least one more game. He's notorious for coming back too soon and messing himself up further.

Habs 3-1

One word: +9.

What's the problem with Brisebois? He's doing a fine defensive job right now, probably playing the best hockey of his career. For the first time in many years, Breezer is doing the simple but effective plays. Still, people don't seem to notice. Disliking him is one thing, but saying " let's see how many turnovers he'll give tonight " is not appropriate this season. Instead, people should be worrying about Rivet's team worst -10 as far as I'm concerned.

What's wrong with Markov, how come he's not playing? His father passed away?

Who's replacing him?

Koivu playing with Sundstrom and Dackell.
Juneau centering the 4th line.
Is Plekanec on the first line?

Btw, Kilger was put on the waiver's list!

And the goal by the Habs!

What a nice play by Ryder to take the puck and then Bulis scores!

1-0!

And another goal by the Habs!

Scored by Richard Zednik!

2-0

Edit: And then a penalty to Ribeiro on the face-off, a 4 minutes PP for the Trashers.

Woah! Theodore really is on his game today!

Kovalchuk is scaring the hell out of me. All these nifty moves, dekes, shots. And that pass to Robitaille!

Ouch, the puck went right in Petrovicky's face. That hurts!

Great game so for for the Canadiens.

Great first goal. Bouillon carrying the puck thru 3 zones, then Ryder retakes the puck from a beginning of a turnover, pass to Perreault who passes to Bulis, the shoot and the goal, Ryder coming in the slot for the return in case of. All this perfectly executed, tic-tac-toe, nice and fast.

Then some good shifts with Koivu and Sunny, man Koivu plays a great game this afternoon. He seems to have his legs back. Then the second goal (Zednik), the 3 guys attaquing the zone in the same time, Koivu poke the puck in case of but the goal was already in, it's Zed's. They all play the game, they have energy.

And Theodore who stops everything in that PK. (stupid penalty at the face-off by Ribs, hope he's gonna score or prepare a fabulous goal later in the game)

Hey I love that game, if the CH keep on playing like that they will make the PO and who knows...

It looks like Kovalchuk is always on the ice. I am always hearing his name or seeing him. AND HE JUST MISSED A GOAL JUST AS I AM TYPING THAT. HOLY COW!
