Does this mean his salary cap hit is off the books? If so .....

Anyone happen to know if Salavat Yulaev is also in need of a starting netminder with NHL experience, perhaps one who has multiple 30 win seasons? If so I say T-Vo should bring a friend with him, maybe they can reminisce about their glory days in the NHL.

are we completely sure that his contract is now broken and doesn't count against our books?

You know, I do respect him to have enough self respect to break contract here and sign in Russia. I'm willing to bet that for this year, he would be paid more to sit pretty in the AHL then play in Russia. For that I commend him, not enough people in this world like that. Best of luck to him.

The Kings could suspend him if he doesn't report to camp.

However, a more likely scenario is that the team assigns him to Manchester during camp. They wait for Oleg to NOT report to Manchester. The Kings can then say he is not fulfilling his obligations under the SPC, and waive him for the purposes of unconditional release. The Kings place him on waivers, and 24 hours later release him. No payments, no cap hit.

But but but, I thought DL screwed up, since we had Tverdovsky, Calder and Modry all signed there was no way in hell we could ever sign Cammy???? /sarcasm off

I wish Tverdovsky the best, he's a good guy, just way overpaid for what type of player he turned into.

That's because that name just pain's me to even type out. Worst deal ever

BTW, the cheap shot was all in fun and games, I think this is going to be something we both agree on 100%. I love Russia for taking him off the Kings books....

Agreed. With this salary off the books, Kings just need to rid themselves of Dan Cloutier's and they will be in a much better spot...

Unfortunately even the RSL wouldn't take Cloutier.

I don't understand why some of you people are cheering. He would not have counted against the cap, anyways, since he would've been in Manchester. Also, he's not a bad guy, and cheering that his NHL career is going down the tubes just seems rather disrespectful to me. I think that we can discuss the positives for the Kings while paying due respect to Oleg in the process.

I'm surprised he wasn't picked up by Phoenix or one of those other teams that need to reach the salary floor. (I assume Dean made him available for a bag of pucks, as a courtesy.)

Phoenix tried to dump Boynton at almost 3 million to try and rid themselves of him, they don't want to add 2.5 in Tverdovsky.

If you look at it the other way, he is breaking his contract with the Kings to go play for another team in Russia because he doesn't want to be a part of an organization that is not playing him on their highest level. Why should we respect that he can't cut it in the big leagues?

If he was one of Kings better players and decided to go play for a different league in a different country and cut his ties with the Kings would you still be defending these actions?

Should we be mad instead?

Fair point - I forgot about that episode.

Aren't there some other teams that still need to reach the floor?
