hello I'm heading to the game Sunday night vs the Leafs with 3 friends. Can you guys give me a good restaurant near the Wachovia center. I was going to go to an Italian joint named D'Angelos but they are closed on Sundays. I know there's a Chicky and Petes nearby but was looking for something a little fancier. It can be steaks, italian, seafood. I'll be down in the area by 4 so I'll have plenty of time before the game to sit down somewhere. Thanks for any help.
Your best bet would probably be just to head somewhere down Broad St. toward Center City. Like they said above me, those two places are about it. I know there's a lot of places just off of Broad going toward city hall, and all you have to do is turn around to get back to the stadiums.
Not hockey related, but coming to Philly for the USA vs Turkey Soccer game. Need some more not well known American Revolution sites to visit before the game.
Go to Popi's Restaurant...About a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk from the arena...Very good Italian...I think their website is www.popisrestaurant.com so you can check out the menu
My friends had it down to Scannichios and McCormack and Schmidts. They were leaning towards McCormacks is this near the Wachovia Center? If these aren't nearby we are going to Popis. Thanks
I've had a bad experience both times at Schneichos (once service and once food)...Your other choice is near City Hall but not more than a 10-15 ride down Broad...If you want Italian, like I said in my last post, Popi's is the place to go...Steaks and seafood, I would take the ride down Broad St.

well, valley forge is like...an hour-ish away? 30 minutes away is the mass grave and memorial for the Massacre of Paoli, and an additional 5 minutes from that is General Wayne's house. I'm not sure you'll be able to fine any "less-well known" sites still standing in the city, that kind of thing tends to get developed over time. im not an expert though so i could be wrong.
It's not even a matter of that. It's a matter of "what sites are still extant in any form more than a commemorative plaque"?
Now, now, those commemorative plaques do capture the zeitgeist.
There are the battlefields in the area if you're willing to drive around (Germantown, and Brandywine), Fort Mifflin...The obvious stuff is in Olde City obviously, but there's some other stuff out there.

I've seen the first page and it gives good individual pointers, but I'd like to know what you guys recommend for a tour after the game with a combination of these, in any order:
1- A good Philly Cheese Steak
2- A gentlemen's club
3- A good irish style pub - nothing too trendy, not too rowdy either, a good laid back place for 30 year olds.

1- Jims on 4th and South, but Tony Luke's is closer to the stadium and just as good.

The Plough and the Stars in Olde city, McFaddens (either off of Spring Garden or at Citizen's Bank Park, but I'm not a big fan of either), and there's Tir na Nog off of Arch. There's also Finnegan's Wake near McFadden's that's right on Spring Garden.

My dad and I are planning on coming to Philly one weekend next fall to see a Flyers and Birds game in the same weekend. Were looking at the Holiday Inn right by the sports complex down there, does anyone know much about it and how easy it is to get to the arenas and stadiums from it? Walking distance?

EASSSYYYYY walking distance. But from what I have heard, it is a crap hotel.
Like really crappy? 'Cause we really only need a decent hotel for 2-3 nights, and we've stayed at atleast a dozen different Holiday Inn's, no joke. Stayed in Holiday Inn's ranging from Bozeman, Montana to Page, Arizona to Vancouver Island.
