Pool advice needed

ok so I have pretty much made up my mind of the players I wish to protect but I wanted some reassurance. My team is:

Steve Bernier (SJ - RW) Kevin Bieksa (Van - D)
Petr Cajanek (StL - C,LW) Ryane Clowe (SJ - LW,RW) Alexander Frolov (LA - LW) Ric Jackman (Anh - D)
Slava Kozlov (Atl - LW) Patrick Marleau (SJ - C)
Vaclav Prospal (TB - C,RW) Brad Richards (TB - C)
Martin St. Louis (TB - RW) Eric Staal (Car - C)
Paul Stastny (Col - C) Doug Weight (StL - C)
Ryan Whitney (Pit - D) Sergei Zubov (Dal - D)

Goaltending

Peter Budaj (Col - G) 31 Miikka Kiprusoff (Cgy - G)

What I must do is protect 2 forwards, 1 defenseman, 1 goalie

I am thinking: St. Louis, Marleau, Whitney, and Kipper (of course kipper)

anyone think otherwise or am I making the right decision?

BTW, its a standard yahoo h2h league using G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, GWG as the stats.

I would protect Staal and one of Richards or Marleau or St. Louis personally. Whitney and Kiprusoff are the other choices obviously. It would help to know some details about the league (slary cap, scoring, etc...). Stastny is also an attractive option but I think slightly below the others.

I was contemplating Staal but I just don't know if he will be able to keep up point production with Richards, Marleau, or St. Louis.

Ah, its a standard yahoo head to head league.

G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, GWG

I really think Staal will be a good idea. Last year you could say he had a sophomore slump. I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up numbers similar to two seasons ago this year.

Stastny has huge upside I agree but he is nowhere near Marleau, St. Louis, Richards, or Staal in skill (yet) I could probably draft Stastny again in the seventh or eighth round where the rest would be swallowed up in the first 3 rounds.

Its really a question between: Two of - Staal, St. Louis, Richards, Marleau. One of - Whitney, Zubov. Goalie is a no brainer.

I would personally do Staal, St. Louis, and Whitney if you are for sure keeping a D. I might consider Marleau over Whitney as well.

What I said in RL:

St Louis, Marleau(Depending on where he ends up)/Frolov (He's GOING TO SPANK!)
Whitney

Kipper

wow, looking like Staal is an almost consensus. I gues I should give him alot bigger of a look to hold onto.

St. Louis, Staal, Whitney, Kipper

(although drafting Budaj may be a good idea, I expect Col to be good this year).

Thats a wild card though as you never can know if Theo will return to Hart form and steal the job back.

I would be willing to bet that he cannot return to his Hart form. Besides most goalies are a gamble. Who doesn't have a good backup? Even Fernandez was moved this offseason due to Backstrom.... who saw that coming up before the previous season. I didn't even know who Backstrom was and he is now their #1 goalie (but what about Harding) See what I mean.

Alot of teams don't have good backups, heck alot of teams don't have a good starter. (St. Louis for example.) But I would not be surprised to see Theo put up a fight this year, although I agree he will not be able to get back to the form he was the year he won the Hart. Just a hunch I have. Of course there are alot of goalies I would draft before him.

I had Frolov in my pool last year and he was great. He does not rank with guys like St. Louis and Staal though. I see Staal bouncing back this year. And last year St. Louis was my prediction to have a great year after a ****** one. The year before was Lidstrom... I think he had 37 points or so and followed up with 80 (or something like that).
