Just my opinion but why not hand Denis the reins and see what he can do? He's the better of the goalies through training camp so go with him as the starter, Holmqvist as the backup, and send Ramo down. If Denis fails to get the job done, trade him, waive him, whatever. You're paying him the money to do the job so give him a shot to do it. Either that or platoon him with Holmqvist. I think you should give him one more shot and if he doesn't get it done, move on to Holmqvist and Ramo. You have too much depth to keep farting around and not make a decision.

Again, just my opinion.

And an excellent one IMO. Well said, I completely agree.

The Lightning sent goaltender Karri Ramo back to AHL Norfolk today, meaning Marc Denis and Johan Holmqvist will start the season as Tampa Bay's top two goalies.

Anyone really surprised that Ramo was sent back? I mean, really surprised?

Lightning coach John Tortorella announced to us that Johan Holmqvist will be in net when the Lightning open play against New Jersey on Thursday night. I donít think I would have been surprised no matter the decision....

I know it doesn't make up for last year. BUT, as a STL fan I've seen a bunch of Denis (when he played with the Jackets), and have always been impressed with him. I said several times over the years, "if he played on a good team he would be one of the best goalies in the league". Now again last year it didn't happen. But IMO this is his year. If the D holds up I think you guys are going to be a great team, with him in net.

Good luck this year.

I hope you're right, and I think most Lightning fans hope you're right. I want to see him succeed and play well, even if some have a Kovalev-type hate for him.

I really don't care as one of these idiots decides to stop a beachball this year. Thought Denis would get the nod, but no one is #1 until they earn it. Homer starts on opening night, but this is obviously a fluid situation. Whoever earns it during the season will be the #1(at that time until they falter).

Was Holmqvist that bad during the pre-season games?

Just to guess who will start the first game for TB, who started the last three pre-season games? Usualy, the starter of the final game gets the opener.

Holmqvist got the 3rd star (according to ESPN) in the 5-1 lost against Dallas... has he played the whole game?

Holmqvist was fine in preseason games. Allowed 3 goals in a game and a half of action. He came in midway through the Dallas game and stopped 17 of 18. He played a full game in the 2nd preseason game stopping 18 of 20. Denis played well in camp so a few thought he would get the nod. His stats don't look good for the Dallas game, but all reports put that on the defense and a Tampa team that looked like it wanted to get out of there injury free.

Holmqvist got the first game. Will Tortorella use an alternance system with Denis or is it more a system like: "you lose a game, you lose your place"?
