Ehh. Eriksson and Lundqvist for Montoya? Stars might want a little extra back, if Eriksson really is their #1 prospect. That's kind of two roster players from the Stars, though.

Edit: Vague rumors (from Eklund, apparently) about the stars shopping Jokinen. Anyone know if he plays center very well? He's listed as C/LW on TSN, but LW on the Stars site.

In theory he could be a thought for 3rd line center, if he can play that position, but I don't know how well he'd do in that role.
Last thing we need right now is another winger. I have no problem with Dubinsky getting the 3rd line job, and see no reason we should get a 3rd liner aside from our own system. If we trade Montoya I want a 1st pairing defenseman, or a top offensive prospect. Otherwise keep him to progress and possibly get some starts in the NHL, and trade him next season.

Jokinen is def suited better on the wing. Never played much Center with the depth they had last season.

I dont see the Rangers trading for a D-man, because we have quite a bit as it is. The 3rd line Center is still a question mark, but is it really worth Monty?

The Stars lack stars that I'd trade for at this time. Eklund will start this rumor with any team that needs a goalie, so Montoya will be rumored going somewhere every week.

I've always been against dealing a young goaltender who has huge upside. There is always the chance he busts, but at the same time, his trade value increases as he develops into a better, NHL-ready goaltender.

I guess it comes down to risk vs. reward, asset management and actual need.

Every time I read his site for one of his ridiculous rumors, he mentions that he's on vacation. Vacation from what, making up false rumors for your website?

If the Rangers trade Montoya it better NOT be for Joel Lundqvist....He isn't the Henrik of forwards....The Rangers have about 50 Joel Lundqvist running around in there system

Montoya should only be packaged for a #1 or #2 defenseman and i don't think the Stars have anything they would want to give the Rangers...

Montoya and Pock for Zubov and Lundqvist-- that would be a tremendous deal.
That would be pretty bizarre getting a guy from the 94 cup team to have another go at it with the new NYR.

And sos, I disagree, Joel is currently a little more experienced and efficient than any of our prospect centers.

Getting Zubov would be insane, but it will never happen. Also, he is 37 which is a bit of a turn off. Still one of the better defenseman in the league but his time is expiring. I think he's going to finish his career with Dallas

Also, why the hell would Dallas give Zubov for a backup goalie? Doesn't make any sense

Montoya is not worth Zubov....

Montoya and Staal for Zubov makes sense! (Rangers won't do it but that's his value right now....3rd best D in the league)

I was talking potential...

I also don't think the Rangers have room for him right now...Who would he bump off the roster? Montoya has more value to the Rangers then JLundqvist would have to the Rangers...Montoya is the "real" backup when you think about it...If Hank went down for any length of time (god forbid) Montoya would be the starter..Montoya isn't untouchable but any return for him would have to be significant..If you traded Montoya and Lundqvist was injured the #1 and #2 goalies would be Vally and Holt...

Montoya, Malik, and Dawes for Phillipe Boucher, Lundqvist, and a high pick?
You could also sweeten this to get Zubov instead of Boucher by adding a second round pick.

Maybe too much?

No thats an overpay for a 37 year old. Rangers could put some other excellent d prospects into a package.

So why isn't this in the Eklund thread? Do we really need to post a new thread every time this hack comes up with another rumor?

Naturally his trade value will increase as he gets better and better, but there's also a very real danger of losing him on the cheap next summer.

The basic problem is that a year from now he'll no longer be an option for Hartford, but he'll be too expensive to play backup in New York.

If another team gives him an offer sheet, there could be big problems. The Rangers would either have to accept the offer and then deal with the cap implications, or decline and take a 2nd round pick in compensation.

I'm just glad the thread starter didn't link to Eklund's site... I hate contributing to their ad revenue.... Complete garbage blog (Eklund's)...

Yep, you're right, that WON'T happen.

But hey, if there was ever any sign that the Lundqvists were being reunited, I'd call this a pretty interesting one. Not Joel straight up for Alvaro, of course, but as part of a deal. I could live with that.

Am I the only one who has no interest in acquiring Joel Lundqvist?

We are stacked with 3rd and 4th line prospects... We don't need him just because he's someone's brother...

Thanks but No Thanks.

Smith is their back up... 3 shut outs in 19 starts with a GAA of 2.23 and a SV% of .912

This is how it could be then

Smith and Lundqvist for Montoya

Take out Dawes, and it works.

Monty and Malik for Boucher and #1?
