wonder how much the contract is worth for Ulanov.

Can't seem to believe the Ulanov part of the story surely Woywitka would be better up here financially

Cross on the IR, or someone else hurt?

Lynch back down?

Or is there a trade about to go through?

That's a little too much dmen up here... something has to give.

EDIT: Ulanov doesn't have a NHL contract so can he really get called up?

So did Lynch get injured tonight? Seems strange to call both Bergie and Ulanov up. Personally I think Woywitka has outplayed both of them in the last little while.

Odd move. Maybe Cross's back isn't as good as we think?

It's gonna be REALLY weird seeing Ulanov in Oilers silks again. Never thought I'd see the day.

I think the Oilers are happy to let Wyowitka get 20+ minutes per game for the next little while than get 10 minutes every 2nd or 3rd game in Edmonton.

Seems were checking out every d-man we have Allen, Ulanov, Luoma, and Lynch all called up in a very short period of time. I think its to soon to call up Woywitka after the Comrie trade if he does not perform stellarly in his first few games the average fan will be overly critical of him and KL(patience is not a common virtue).

Good move imo. They rode their horses pretty hard tonight, and they can't count on Cross because it's his back.

I suspect they would have sent Lynch back down, right? I mean, they played him 6 minutes tonight, they're unlikely to give him more minutes against NJ.

The one main concern is Ulanov. If he can make the simple plays, he'll be fine. However, his job isn't pinching in and going for broke, and he sometimes has lapses in that area.

This blew my toque right off.

There is more going on than we know. A trade or injury.

Or like mentioned, Lynch out Bergie in, and Ulanov to fill in for Cross (possible IR). But that seems weird, even if Ulanov did have a contract, I would be afraid to watch his footspeed tomorrow night if he played. Pretty quick return for Bergie too.

someone splain.... someone splain....

According to this
http://www.nhl.com/onthefly/scoreboa...s/SC020589.HTM

Lynch didn't play past the early stages of the second period. I didn't notice him on the ice either.

Probably injury?

IMO it could be as simple as wanting a quick look at Lynch, for whatever reason (maybe to see if he can play if they trade someone else, but maybe just to check on his progress)

I mean, if they had never sent Bergie down, and just called Ulanov up now, I wouldn't really think much of it except Ulanov is replacing an injured Cross.

But the conspiracy theories are more fun, so lets go with that for awhile

or maybe they wanted to call Ulanov up back when they called up Lynch, but couldn't get a contract done in time, so just called Lynch up to send Bergie a message.

I think a trade is in the works. I don't see Luoma being sent down but maybe Lynch. So that leaves us with Brewer, Staios, Semenov, Luoma, Ferguson, Bergeron, Ulanov, Smith and Cross. Neither Smith or Cross are on the IR but maybe they will be come tomorrow to make room for Bergeron and Ulanov. They would have to be to make room for these 2.

I totally agree. What would be the point of calling up Woywitka? He's been with the organazation all of 5 minutes and if he comes up and stinks some of the so called "fans" will start with the "this is what we got for Comrie" crying and that's the last think in the world the kid needs on his shoulders at this point in his development.

Wow, this is a little of a shocker, was quite surpised to see the headline when coming here. Without putting to much thought into it, I'd guess this does mean a trade is in the works, and they'd like to make sure they have enough depth of guys to be able to play NHL level in case of injury and also to fill in who's leaving and not look out of place playing regularily.

very interesting....

that leaves us:

Luoma (deserves to stay, definetaly)
Staios
Brewer (Has been playing like Pronger Jr. lately)
Semenov
Lynch (getting sent down?)
Ferguson
Cross (is he ready?)
Ulanov (we'll see)
Bergeron (has the message been sent?)

With Smith, thats 10 defenceman. Hmmmmmm...........
Is it smart to experiment with our D before games against NJ, NYI and Philly?

Yup. So Lynch has to be sent down and one of Smith or Cross put on the IR to make room for Bergeron and Ulanov. Isn't Reasoner coming back soon too? Things might get interesting in the next couple days!!

Another very interesting spot is center.

York
Moses (Oates)
Horcoff
Stoll

Reasoner coming back.

My belief in Horcoff's game borders on the ridiculous, but I don't think sending Stoll down helps in any way.

Would the best solution be to put Reasoner on the 2line and send Oates to the pressbox until he's in game shape?

Or do they deal Horcoff, a dman and the Flyers first rounder for someone who can help put the puck in the net?

Hmmm.

Smith is injured. This is from the game notes....

Edmonton defenceman Jason Smith missed his second game with a sprained left ankle. He's expected to miss another week to 10 days

We know Smith is injured, we were just saying that he isn't on the IR(Injured Reserve List) right now, so he is on the active roster.

"Curiouser and curiouser..."

Something has to be in the works.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but (after we sign Ulanov) wouldn't he have to clear waivers to be sent back down???

Unless he signed a 2-way contract?

Either way I doubt any problem in sending him down, at least at this point.

This is my guess. I figured Lynch was only up for a quick looksee.

I don't get Bergeron though. From the reports out of TO he wasn't exactly playing well. Why bring him up?

And I guess I could see why they'd want Ulanov up, as I don't think Semenov has enough bad habits yet. More seriously, IF he can still play he can be a pretty miserable ******* in front of the net and with Smith gone this is missing. Plus I also think the Oilers very emphatically want to be known as a team that gives the people they sign a chance to make the team. This could also play into it?

Is it funny or sad that Ferguson would be ahead of Ulanov in the roster order?

Edit: Apparently I can't say ******* without getting automatically corrected. I understand this and am not upset, but I'm a little surprised because its a pretty common word and probably can be found in elementary school dictionaries.
