Game Day Thread - Oilers @ Devils

Edmonton Oilers @ New Jersey Devils

from NHL.com

"The defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils hope to snap a three-game winless streak when they host the Edmonton Oilers at Continental Airlines Arena. "

It'll be a tough game and everyone has to play in order to beat the Devils. hopefully our forwards can find some holes and the back of the net past Brodeur!

GO OILERS GO!!

In my fantasy league, I am sitting Brodeur tonight.

In games I sit Brodeur, his record is 2-8-6, with 0 SO's.

I dont have high hopes for this game. NJ is on a 3 game losing streak and we are undefeated in 3 games. Not quite the streak buster of 2 years ago when we were on a 10 game winning streak but much more important. I smell a Tie or OTL.

I know the core of this team is different than last year, but don't quit. Last year's meeting with the Devils was a 6-3 scorefest by the Oil.

Well, I'll be optimistic and say 2-1 Oil.

I´m very optimistic:
4-2 Oilers

Isbister, Smyth, Torres, Chimera for the Oilers
Pandolfo, Niedermayer for the Devils

Ulanov is in, Bergeron is in, Luoma is out.

Couple bad penalties early, and then cue the Tommy "I can't close my legs or put my stick there" goal..............UGH.

Ty should've started tonight, that would only make sense.

Is Laraque injured and how serious is Cross' injury? He's missed 5 games already.

Ulanov has looked good early on.. he's already pinched down low a few times and has made a couple good transition plays. Bergeron had a bad tripping penalty and has looked a lil nervous so far..

You gotta admire Ulanov. It would have been so easy for Ulanov to just cut his losses and go play in some rinky-dink European league back home and be a star player for good money. Instead, he still wants to proove that he can play in the NHL.

I hope he makes it. I liked him a lot as an Oiler before. Heck of a shot blocker.

It really would have made a lot of sense starting Conklin tonight, he must be itching to get back in there.

True.. it also makes sense to ride Tommy however. He has played great IMO the last little while and has really been making the key saves..

Eric Brewer played over 10 minutes in the first. Is he being double shifted?

Good. He's only made one lunatic pass I've seen, and he threw it up the middle so hard not even the NJ player could receive it properly. But he's playing it simple, and playing pretty well positionally.

Between periods, Igor said he was happy to be back and just trying to get his legs.

Gene just interview Marty Reasoner who says he hopes to get in the lineup for a couple of games before the road trips ends. Says it isn't certain he'll be back against NYI.

Lovely play by York, Dvorak and Torres for the goal btw.

Yikes. That's too much icetime for Brewer isn't it. Both Brewer and Staios are going to be worn down by season's end.

Icetime by the Defense against Chicago.

Staios - 28:56
Brewer - 27:31
Semenov - 24:15
Ferguson - 17:17
Luoma - 13:43
Lynch - 6:04

Icetime against New Jersey After 1 period

Brewer - 10:08
Staios - 9:48
Ulanov - 6:06
Ferguson - 5:05
Semenov - 4:37
Bergeron - 4:16

Icetime with 14:19 left in second period

Brewer - 13:03
Staios - 12:19
Ulanov - 7:29
Ferguson - 6:52
Semenov - 6:00
Bergeron - 5:39

Hard to imagine Ferguson playing over 17 minutes in Chicago, eh? Sad isn't it?

Cool. That's good to hear. Ulanov is doing pretty much what we need out there - playing it safe. It's nice to have a pilon to rely upon.

As for Reasoner coming back during the road trip. I didn't expect that. That's good news.

Yup. This team needs a defenseman desperately. With both Smith and Cross out, it puts a lot of pressure on both Brewer and Cross.

Stupid penalty by Horcoff again! He has the worst faceoff% on a team that has moved up to the middle of the pack from 30th since Oates showed up.Stoll has been looking really good in all aspects of the game,he is getting better with every game.MacT will probably put him in the press box once Reasoner gets back this week! There is no way he would sit his golden boy(Horcoff).Hopefully Lowe ships Fergie and Horridoff to Atlanta for a 4th rounder.

What?

He has been one of the players responsible for the big turn around in face-off percentage.

His face off % early in the year was around 44%, it is now 48.8.

Good news for the Oil who are usually brutal in the 2nd period, they were able to dominate the defending champs and won the period 1-0.
