Oof. I think this may be a tough one. The Blues have been good at home; we've not been good on the 2nd night of back-to-backs, plus we haven't been scoring and are winless in 5 or 6 or something like that.
Comment from Zholtok in the Star-Trib concerning how teams are playing us differently this season compared to last:
"When we scored, teams thought they had to score right away and they opened up on us," Zholtok said.
"We would use our speed to get the odd-man rush. They took more risks. We don't get that now."
So, I think we'll lose this one, but let's hope we see some improvements in the little stuff. Maybe a goal from someone who should be scoring more. Better shots when we get the chances. Better passing, or at least better puck movement out of the zone and/or into the offensive zone.
Oh, should mention that the Star-Trib had Lemaire saying he wanted to get E. Chouinard into the line-up tonight. Also, the PP revealed that E. Chouinard was suffering from a mild concussion from a couple of pucks to the head. Apparently they thought that the painkillers he was on were causing him to feel "off," but he had a visit with the team doctor and they decided it was actually a mild concussion. Hopefully he's all better now and ready to score loads and loads of goals.
Well, after that sluggish first things seemed to pick up for the Wild. A nice 2nd, followed by an OK third leads to yet another OT tie. I think our guys should be pretty happy with that.
Refs made some "interesting" calls and non-calls. I thought the obstruction on Dowd was non-existant, but it sure was fun to see Quenneville go off behind the bench. "Why not five? Why not five?" he yells... hee hee. Knowing our PP record he probably wasn't too worried about us scoring, but was more upset about the lost opportunities. The powerplay sure didn't lead to anything for us and unfortunately I think it did lead to more chippiness and to Walz's injury. Slo-mo made the hit look kind of late, but I suppose there was nothing really wrong with it. Hate to see anyone get injured, though.
I wish we had more guys would would pass like Daigle, and more guys who would shoot like Zyuzin.
Oh, and I wish we had a few more guys who would finish their checks. I guess that's not our style, but I'd still like to see it a bit more. Our guys do a whole lot of 'skate right up to a guy and make him get rid of the puck'... just a little extra bump is all it would take to make me happy. I don't need to see banging left and right. Just a couple of mild hits when the opportunity presents itself.
