2007/2008 NHL Danes

All of the official NHL web sites have moved a lot of prospects to the roster for the forthcoming training camp. However, I'm quite surprised that the Islanders haven't moved Frans Nielsen to their roster while a lot of other prospects have been moved up. He is still listed as a prospect. What do you think might be the reason for this?

Madsen, Starkov and Hansen have been moved up to the roster of their teams while Eller and Regin (not surprisingly) remains as prospects.

It's probably just an error, as Nielsen and Hansen are the only Danes with NHL experience and are most likely going to be the first to be called up this season unless there is any regression in their development.

i know he is playing in the SEL for timra, but i thought he was going to at least be in the AHL by now. i saw something about him on tv a feaw years ago (before he was drafted) that he was going to be the first dane in the NHL and stuff like that.

do you think he is ever going to cross the pond??

Peter Regin has extented his contract so he will play 08/09 too. This is great news for Danish hockey for more than 1 reason. First of all it gives him a better chance at becoming a regular NHL player in the future(see Karsten's posts about the IIHF survey). Secondly it means that Denmark has one of the best players available at the IHWC once again.

However as earlier reported he turned down a 10-year contract offer, and has said multiple times that he wants to play in the NHL, so this is just to increase his chances. Regin says that the reason that he stay is because he can see Frans Nielsen and Jannik Hansen struggle to become regular NHLers. He states that he wants to be sure that he has a real chance to crack the lineup before coming over.

It will be interesting to see where he could fit into Ottawa's lineup.

Heatley - Spezza - Alfredsson
Regin - Fischer - Eaves
Vermette - Kelly - Niel
Foligno - McAmmond - McGrattan
Donovan

That might work?

i think he would have to really prove himself before being ahead of vermette and foligno on the depth chart.

Exactly, that's why I wonder how/where he'll fit on the team.
