Peter Forsberg

reportedly hanging out in NY.....perhaps getting a flavor for the city?

What do you think his cap hit would be if he signed for 1/2 a season in January?

Early in the summer some posters said he wouldnt play in NY because he didnt get along with Nylander.

I think the guy , if healthy, I mean really healthy. Will return mid season to a team with an OBVIOUS shot at the cup.

Obviously a wait and see deal. January is alot of hockey from now.

If we were ever going to get him, last March would have been the time. but since we got DruMez we have no need for his services... need a checking line guy to fill the spot. besides we couldn't afford a guy like Forsberg when other teams need him more and have the cap space to offer.

If the rangers are near the top of the Eastern conference at the mid point of the season then I don't see a point in bringing in Forsberg, because at that point we might be disordering some established chemistry at that point in the season. I'm also a little uneasy about so many superstars on the team. It just doesn't seem to be the way cups are won any more.....

well yea,,,

but what is the hit for 1/2 a season of play.

If he just wanted $$$$ there are teams that would sign him now and just pay him till he was healthy

Get Forsberg and you have to trade somebody for a bag of pucks — otherwise there might not be enough to go around.

i was the single biggest rah-rah get forsberg guy on this board.

once we signed gomez and drury, it became a foregone conclusion that he wont be a ranger. it still is that way today. hes not a 3rd line center. how is he going to feel centering a 3rd line? he doesnt play defense very well, and hes aging.

peca at least plays defense, and can easily adjust to being a 3rd liner, despite his age.

no, at this point, its time to give the kids a chance.

Peter Forsberg had hernia surgery in Montreal on Tuesday, and that's another reason why he won't be ready to skate for quite a while - if at all.

That's a farce. Forsberg's days of healthy hockey are long behind him.

But sure, there might a superspecialist in Montreal.

But I've not seen it reported anywhere else (and swedish media normally goes bananas if Forsberg as much as farts).

No need for Forsberg at this point.

But to get people riled up (Rangerboy), what do you think about Lindros for the 3rd line center posistion?

I'd offer him something like (prorated of course) 500k for the eyar, 2mil in bonuses if he plays in 75% of the team's games after he signs, and another mil in bonuses if he averages .7 ppg. So basically, if he delivers, its 3.5 prorated, and you'd have to be a real shmuck to not spend that on Forsberg.

we'll see what happens, if we look really good when 08 rolls around, we could have a shot at landing him

Where would the Rangers get that kind of cap room?

I'd take him over Forsberg or Roenick, if that's what you mean.

we have baout 3 mil in cap space as it is, plus, as i stated clearly, 3 mil of it is bonus money. i don't know about you, but i'd be willing to let soem cash count on next year's cup if it means a cup this year.

not saying forsberg would win us a cup, but our forward corps would be the deepest in the league. and if you thought straka nylander jagr was nasty.............

~$3.5M not including bonuses. Once Shanny hits 10 games, that's another $2.8M applied.

The bottom line is, you're going to have to make room for Forsberg and I don't think that's a very good choice for a guy with his health record.

Seeing what Forsberg did for Nashville's Cup chances, no way in hell I'd apply his salary to next year's cap hit in the name of a Cup run.

melrose, did you bother to read my post? the way i structured the deal is that he only gets paid the full 3.5 if he performs. i really dont understand how one could walk away from a guy like forsberg if he's healthy.

Unless the performance clause states that the Rangers win the cup in order for him to get the bonus, you risk throwing away a lot of cap room next season for potentially nothing. I'm not sure that's a great gamble for the player either.

I agree, you don't walk away from a healthy Forsberg. Unfortunately, there is no such thing.
