Hmm.

I don't think you will see anyone get 92 goals in a season ever or 50 goals in 39 games.

Glenn Hall's consecutive games for a goalie is the single most untouchable record for me. No goalie plays all 82 games in a season, let alone doing it 6 seasons in a row.

Agreed. Hall's record of 502 games started will not be beaten in our lifetimes.

Most of Gretzky's 59 records probably will not be beaten either. Someone could get hot and come close to the 50 goals in 39 games, but I doubt it.

Selanne's record seems safe for now, also. It went from Rick Martin's 44 goals to Bossy's 53 to .....76? Holy cow! It is going to be awhile before we see ANYONE score 76 goals in a season again, let alone a rookie!

Of all Gretzky's single-season records, 163 assists seems most unbreakable. 92 goals is unlikely to be broken, but Lemieux and Hull have both taken good runs at it. 50 in 39 is probably even less likely, but Cam Neely scored 50 in less than 50 in a season that wasn't particularily high scoring (1993-94). If scoring levels went up a little more, I don't think it's inconceivable that a player like Ovechkin in his prime could get on a great hot-streak and take a run at it. But 163 assists? Nobody's come remotely close. Lemieux topped out at 114 in his best season, and only him and Orr have ever cracked 100.

80 minute PIM game by one person... they'd be thrown out after the 2nd major so it's virtually impossible

or was it 60 minutes... I dunno.

Team record-wise, the Isles' consecutive playoff series wins - spanning five straight trips to the Finals - will be hard to crack.

I'd say that longevity-related records are generally the most difficult to break...

My top five: Hall's 502 consecutive games, the Islanders' 19 straight playoff series victories, and Gretzky's 11 straight seasons of 100+ assists, career playoff points and 163-assist season.

How about winning a Norris,MVP,Scoring title and Conn Smythe in one season? Forwards need not apply.

IMO I think the 92 goals record is beatable but..not for another who knows amount of seasons...

163 assists, and 76 goals for a rookie in a season I think are the two most insane.

I couldn't even touch 76 goals for a rookie in NHL 2k6...

closest I got was 58.

everytime i see or hear this topic, i'm surprised more people don't think about mosienkos' hat trick (and i know one person already brought it up on this thread). 3 goals by one player in 21 seconds

its not that the other stuff people bring up isn't impressive, but if the nature of the game changes - and it does over the years - records will fall, be they more points or more shootouts. but when you think about it, scoring 3 goals in 21 seconds is about as close to impossible as you can get.

If there's a stat there's a record. Last I checked PIM's were stats. So, yes, it is a record.

That's another insane one, although a few players have gotten around the same area so I wouldn't consider it the most unbreakable. Ray Whitney had a hat trick in around a minute last season

Winning a scoring title by a 69% margin.

Gretzky did that in 1987 (183 pts, Jari Kurri was runner up at 108). Nobody has ever come close to that margin of victory.

Crosby would have had to put up 193 points last year to reach that mark. Good luck, Sid.

Not that it is necessarily a record but Theo Fleury's shorthanded hattrick will be the only one in NHL history for quite awhile, imo.

When you cant beat one of the NHL records in a Video Game you know it is a good record. I can never beat Gretzky's 163 assists in NHL 08.

The Toronto Maple Leafs record of 40 years and counting of being the most overrated hockey team.

Plus 124,but I think a defenseman winning the scoring title and winning the Norris,Hart,Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup will prove impossible. See any defenseman out there capable?

I recall seeing a guy score 3 goals in 51 seconds in junior...yup no where near as awesome an accomplishment...BUT... It still sticks in my memory...That was Freddy Speck for the Hamilton Jr Redwings circa 1967...think I was in grade 3
