Derian Hatcher....long time captian, multiple time Norris Candidate, the heart and soul of this team for years, the most punishing player in Dallas history, the retribution on Jeremy Roenick, don't let his waning years after a major knee injury in Detroit and Philly fool you he's the 2nd best defensmen in Dallas history

Please, please, post who should be added next.

Darryl Sydor, Jamie Langenbrunner, Richard Matvichuk, Guy Carbonneau and Mike Keane are all due to be added, and a gaggle of Ulf Dahlen, Russ Courtnall, Andy Moog, Mark Tinordi, Dave Tippett and Kirk Muller are all behind them.

Probably going to take this list to #20 or so.

+1 for Derian Hatcher
everyone knows that the key to success for all the great Dallas teams was our defence. We already have Zubov up, so lets get our captain up there too ^^

Give Belfour his due - as much as everyone may like Neiuwy, the only reason Eddie didn't win the Conn Smythe is his relationship with the media. Stars don't win the Cup without Eddie out-battling Roy and Hasek. Just like we should forget Hatcher's struggles after major knee injury, everyone should forget Eddie's departure (and struggles/attitude in his final year with the Stars) and remember that for 4 solid years he was the backbone of this club and one if not the premiere goaltender during that time.

He also contributed to costing us another Cup by getting high on cough syrup before Game 1 in 2000. He also singlehandedly cost us a playoff spot in '02. He's not even the winningest goaltender in franchise history anymore.

Nieuwendyk > Belfour

i think we need to give more props to some of the older generation... my vote went to broten... woulda been third after modano and zubov...

besides cottonking's suggestions, i'd consider adding add gagner, ciccarelli, & churla to the list soon.

Nieuwendyk > Belfour
Go watch the 2000 Finals again, you can't put it on Belfour. The entire team was worn out - they were lucky to scrape out any wins that series.

If going with Minnesota players (Ciccarelli, etc) then the best D-man in franchise history was Craig Hartsburg - hands down. Injuries ended his career early, but in his prime he was one of the best.

As stated previously (maybe in poll 3?), this is solely covering the Dallas years. The Minnesota years are a totally different beast. Feel free to include players like Broten and Hatcher who played for both teams, but guys like Ciccarelli and Hartsburg who didn't skate for the Dallas Stars aren't included.

Re-read the poll question if you have any confusion.

I misunderstood the term "Greats". Not easy to come up with any "greats". Now, "pretty goods" or "decents" are alot easier to name. Maybe you are talking "great" as far as just Dallas players go?? Not holding them up against some of the true greats that have played in the league? Because using THAT as the criteria, then Dallas hasn't had many "greats".

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/t...ns.php?tid=233

As you can see, we have had someone score 50 goals...once. Mike did it 14 seasons ago!!!! Of couse, there are several criteria for determining "greats", but I see few names on those rosters that jump out and scream "GREAT". Great in OUR eyes, but not so great when held up against the rest of the league.

I'll name future polls, "best among the series of mediocre (at least compared to the all-time hockey legends) players we've had playing here in Dallas the last 14 years)" but if people stop looking at the thread because they're confused, we'll know who to blame ...
