Sergei Zubov; DAL, having a pretty terrible year, yet is arguably one of the top 3 powerplay quaterbacks in the league.
1 - Stars are not out of contention yet, in fact, they could very well make the playoffs as the 3rd seed.
2 - The Defense has come together and is starting to gel. Poor results --> blame the pathetic offense. The D has been just fine..
3 - Zubov has been an absolute rock the years before, one season of which the team stuggles in general made everyone's play go down, does not make him expandable.
4 - Matvichuk, Klemm, Numminen and Sweeney are all pending UFA's. We only have Boucher and Zubov under contract for next year, and there's no one that could replace Zubov's presense on the PK, PP or at even strenght, he's usually in the top 5 in icetime played. Look beyond this year and you'll see how thin the Stars defense will be, it basicly makes Zub pretty untouchable. Unless we are rebuilding, which we aren't (see #1)..
5 - Zubov has a NTC
6 - Zubov makes 6 million, which few teams could afford, not now and certainly not next year.
Brind'amour signed a 5 year deal + an option for $5million per year in the summer of 2001. So he has this year, plus 2 more years and an option remaining on the deal.
That is absolute insanity, if Mike O'Connell ever pulled a move like that he'd be feathered and tarred. The Bruins don't exactly have an offensive stud on the blueline but the situation is manageable. The need is there for a reliable defenseman that can play 25 minutes a game(who doesn't really?) and Poti certainly isn't the answer to that question and certainly isn't worth both McGillis and a 1st round pick. Also subtracting McGillis further deteriorates an already suspect blueline.

looks like without Hatcher, Zubov can't be himself out there
Someone tell me why the Sens would make that trade with the Flames? That doesn't help Ottawa at all, nor does it make sense financially for the Flames.
nyr and especiallt atlanta have way more firepower than san jose....
the bruins usually find a way to sneak in or to be right there...i think san jose will make it thoughnow that you've spoken up because of their weak and very close division....might meet us first round
I wouldn't wan't to play the sharks in the PO's if I were a wing fan--Speed , passion, team unity, good big hitting D, Good and Deep in the net and of course the history in the PO's between the two teams (50%).
But since we're gonna win the Division anyway we won't be playing you guys in the 1st round, unless of course, you can't carry your division .

lol im up for your challenge if they meet in the first round, trust me we'll be in contact
1. Roman Hamrlik
2. Tom Poti
3. Eric Brewer
4. Miroslav Satan
5. Alexei Zhamnov
6. Jaromir Jagr
7. Robert Lang
8. Radek Bonk
9. Geoff Sanderson
10. Anson Carter
The Blues might be interested in Sanderson as a late-season addition, to bolster their scoring depth and be the sniper they've been looking for on Doug Weight's line.
What would it take to get Bonk out of Ottawa? Or Brewer out of Edmonton?

From the blues and oilers make bad trade partners as you havn't got young cheap prospects.
Looks to me, you don't know sh¡t about the Stars..
Zubov has been paired with Hatcher for 1,5 seasons during their stays in Dallas.
So because they weren't paired together, Zubov's game wouldn't be affected by Hatcher's absence? I beg to differ...I'm sure many would agree that Hatcher's leaving town probably had some sort of "trickle down effect," on everybody. Think you took the comment too personal M=G.
That's a reasonable expectation of return, I guess... but if Ottawa values him that highly, why would he be listed as one of the top ten "most likely to move" players?
From the Blues, "a top three forward" would be Weight, Demitra or Tkachuk. A "top pairing defenseman" would be Pronger or (right now) Bryce Salvador.
Ottawa won't give up Bonk for Salvador, I wouldn't think, and the Blues aren't trading any of the other listed players for one player in return. I say that with a qualifier, however, that a Demitra-for-Bonk deal might be a possibility.
As for the guy who claims that the Blues and Oilers aren't good trading partners because the Blues have no good young cheap prospects, I disagree. I can think of about three or four players at Worcester right off the top of my head who, if I were coaching/managing the Blues right now, would be on the next plane to St. Louis to shake things up.
With the slump the Blues are currently in, I don't think that John Pohl, Reinhard Divis, Jeff Panzer and either Jame Pollock or Trevor Byrne could do any worse than some of the multi-million-dollar guys currently on the Blues' roster.
You're right in that none of these guys is likely to come up and set the league on fire, but you're wrong to imply that none of these guys, nor Sergei Varlamov, nor some of the kids they have in junior and college right now (Shkotov, Zakharov and Ryan McMurchy, most notably) have little or no value.

Thanks for the correction. Ditto for JohnFlyersFan with the Brind'amour info. I knew about his deal, but didn't about the NTC; same with Zubov.
The main reason I mentioned the two is that versatile forwards who are very good face-off guys and power play quarterback-style defenceman are at the top of every contender's wish list.
I still think Dallas has a bit of a road ahead of them, they need some speed up front. Carolina is toast and really the only veteran player who could really help someone is Brind-amour. I suppose they could move Francis in a Bourque-type move but that's about it. At least as far as impact players go.
