Jackman faces possibility of season ending surgery

TSN.ca Staff

1/7/2004

St. Louis Blues defenceman Barret Jackman faces the possibility of season ending shoulder surgery.

Jackman, the NHL's rookie of the year last season, will undergo an MRI on his left shoulder Wednesday to determine the severity of the latest injury suffered Monday night when a Minnesota player tugged on his arm and dislocated his shoulder.

"It looks like it's not going to be good news," Blues coach Joel Quenneville tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I don't want to go there (season ending surgery) until we know more."

It's the third time this season he has been forced out of the lineup due to a shoulder problem. Back in October, a hard hit from Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi separated his shoulder and he missed six games. After playing in seven games, Jackman met with a specialist in early December and put on a monthlong rehab program to try and strengthen the shoulder.

"That was one of the concerns about the original injury that it was still a possibility of happening again," said Quemmeville. "It's something that has to be fixed. Whatever you have to do, we've got to get it right."

What would you have rather me put? "Oh No... Bye bye Jackman" or "Say it ain't so" or maybe "WHY GOD WHY???"

I just wanted to get the information out there. If I'm going to post the whole article, as written, why not the headline? I don't see the point you are trying to make...

The point I'm trying to make is that the headline they wrote says he's 'facing the surgery' and then in the first line of the story they say he's 'facing the possibility of surgery'.

The headline is currently false.

Sorry, I see what you are getting at now... that's a typo on my part... not TSN's. I copied and pasted the article, then wrote the headline, and didn't proof-read.... The headline should state "Jackman faces possibility of season ending surgery"

Actually you are right, that is the headline... I guess I didn't read it closely enough... just read and reposted the article, sorry it made you angry. Q does make it seem like he's going to have the surgery, not only from that article, but from something else I was reading, I'll try to find a link to that... no more headlines... hehe

I was pretty sure that was a TSN mistake because I saw the same thing on another board.

It's just irresponsible on the part of TSN.

They are usually the first to get hockey news out, so you've gotta cut them a little slack. Way faster than ESPN. Especially when they have ANYTHING else to talk about (College Basketball, Baseball Off-Season, Lying Pete Rose, Two guys playing Squash in their back-yard... it all comes before hockey)

The other day I had to seriously search the ESPN site to even find an article about the WJC. I wanted to see an American take on the victory, and the American take seems to be, that they just don't care about the tourney. Too Bad...

Mike Stuart called up to the show, and Byrne to Worcester... Be nice to see what Stuart can do in STL, and Byrne getting more experience with more seasoned/talented players.
