I like the sound of nine hours personally, though it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it at twelve for the first four rounds or so just to make sure that people don't miss the important first few picks.

12 is the absolute max, 9 sounds reasonable.

I personally take Potvin over Bourque, but only by the slimmest of margins. Part of the problem with the middle 1st round is that everyone is so close, it's very dificult to choose. A whim and a flight of fancy can often be all you can trust.

9 hours is less than a standard workday for some people (I work 7-5 at least) ... you will get a LOT of missed picks if anyone's time starts in the morning, which may really hurt someone's team if they're trying to pick up certain players or certain positions early.

I think all this debate about player sequence is kinda silly at this point ... after the top 4, you can make a case for just about any sequence 5-15 and any sequence 10-25 ... makes more sense to wait and see where teams are after round 3.

That's why GMs need to PM their pick to another GM. If you know you aren't going to be able to make your pick, PM it to me. (And include a back-up, for the "just in case" scenario). It keeps the draft moving.

Guys like Murphy, pit and JFF are usually around during the day, too, and are able to announce your pick for you.

I like the 9 hour limit & using PM if you can't make it.

BTW, Has anybody PM'd Guy 18 & dartmouth that it is their turn. Being new, they might not be aware of it.

Now if only #### is available for my next pick at # 44

I hate to stick up for Murphy but really is #### going to be a secret or anything whom everyone in the draft knows about... it really isn't a huge deal in my mind - no secrets are being given away.

Whose idea was it to waive the time limit to the weekend, anyways? And when do the time limits kick in? Nine hour limit. PM your picks if you won't be around.

The new guy has been on the clock for about 18 hours. He's been around several times, and hasn't announced his pick, or even posted in this forum. Boss, how much longer are we going to give him?

It's somewhat frustrating if he's around and not posting. It'd be understandable if he wasn't online.

Waiting until the weekend was considered fair because we started early. Better waiting for pick 15 now than having no picks made now...

I work 8 and a half hours most days with a 30-60 minute commute each way. (I use public transit, it's usually 45 minutes going and then if I can dash, 30 minute to get home, but if I miss my bus, 60 minutes. 50 minutes if I decide to walk.) So I know the difficulties of 9 hours.

I'm on later than most so, if you are going to bed and expect your pick to come up before morning, I can often help there.

9 hours? I swear it used to be a 24 hour limit in ATD 6, and there were less GMs. Now we want to go down to a 9 hour limit? I was thinking more like 12-15 at first. Not everyone is used to this process yet.

Its not a big deal but we should keep quiet about unpicked players. Foe example, I had a deal worked out contingent on Doug Harvey being available for my #9 pick. In the meantime I see a post listing him as a potential #5 pick. My concern was that if somebody is wavering on harvey, it could have incited them to pick him early over someone else.

it is a big deal. we have never put up with that *beep* and no good draft ever has

it can get manipulative very easy: mentioning undrafted players reminds other players about him, suggesting his value to that g.m. ... it simply influences decisions

Actually what I find to be a big deal is to be told to shut the **** up. To the point of questioning whether or not I even want to take part in this draft.

I humbly apologize for my huge indiscretion, I should have known better and it will never happen again. I'll keep any comments I make to players already selected. That is if we ever get around to selecting any.

I agree. Yes. The rules are that we don't talk about undrafted players, but is it really difficult to enforce and remind politely?

In ATD #6, it started as a 24-hour limit. And it was widely panned. It dropped to 18 hours after six rounds.

The last draft was 12 hours until the sixth round. Then it became nine hours, but very few GMs used the full nine-hour limit, because most GMs PM'ed their picks to a peer, even if it was before they went to work, and their pick was four or five slots away. We had some incredible runs in the last draft, a couple days with 20 picks, a few others in the 15-17 pick range.

We're a 28-team draft. If we want to have this done in two months (the timeline for the last three drafts - yes, we did a 28-team draft in two months), then we need to run with a nine-hour limit, and really encourage GMs to PM their picks.

It was nice to have that limit for the rare time one needed to use it.

We finished the draft in a timely manner. It worked.
