JF interested in Brad Ference

Do you guys think that Ferguson would be interested in getting Brad Ference from Pheonix. They are currently trying to shop him because they apparently want to go with some of their young guys on the blueline. I guess he could be used as a depth defensemen but the way guys are going down with injuries right now we could use as many d-man as we could get.

If so, at what cost?

I'm not suprised. The Leafs tried to get him before he got dealt to the Coyotes. I remember a couple months ago on Leafs Lunch Watters said alot of people in the organization like him & he wouldn't be suprised to see Brad Ference dealt to Toronto. I wouldn't think he would be very costly.

He might not be bad, but as a project of sorts you'd really hate to give him a lot of ice time.

Well I guess the good part would be that he wouldnt cost alot and he's big guy that can play aggressive in front of the net. Young too (only 24). He might be a good depth guy for the playoffs or a guy to replace Marchment for next season but I wouldnt put him in our top six this year.

First of all, if the Coyotes are trying to go with the young guys, why would they trade Ference? He is only 24 or 25.

Secondly, I do not think the Coyotes would be averse to trading Ference. However, they recently paid a 2nd rounder and Darcy Hordichuk (whom Kirill Safronov and Ruslan Zainullan were paid for). It would be terrible asset management to give him up for a 5th rounder. I could see moving him if a salary dump was attached (read: Savage) or as part of a bigger deal. However, he won't be dealt for just a pick.

Ference would be OK. I can a couple dozen guys on non playoff teams I would pick first, but if he comes cheap then sure.

Savage? You can't pay anoyone to take him. Sorry.

I never understood why Phoenix ever signed him. Horrible horrible decision.

Ference was originally a Quinn-Penny draft pick traded to Florida in the Bure Jovanovski deal. Of course they are interested.

I like parts of his game but he takes too many stupid penalties.

Hedin for Ference maybe.

He is what 6'3", 218 lbs., so he has decent size.

What exactly would the Coyotes be after if he is a good, young, defender with size? Perhaps more than you'd want to give up.

Kondratiev/Bell/pick(s)?

I am sure that the Coyotes would love to get one of those players for Ference, but I don't see it happening. His value is low, and it makes sense just to keep him and allow it to possibly go up. There is little room for it to go anywhere but up.

Well, my point is really that why would the Leafs go for him unless he was better than what they already had, and why would the Coyotes let him go if he was?

He isn't old.
He isn't soon to be UFA.
He isn't a smurf.

He can't be very good if they are willing to deal him for what the Leafs would be willing to send their way.
