No, but considering that everyone seems to think that Cooke can't fight, it doesn't bode well for him. It's also might explain why Avery would need a "free punch" in order to go after Cooke.

and Avery really lives up to his words by turtling against Bertuzzi. when will he learn that "at some point you have to fight, whether you win the fight or get your lunch fed to you. It's about a respect thing with your teammates."

Give me a break. The refs came in before anything happened.

And, just curious, why doesn't Bertuzzi try and fight guys in his own weight class?

he does. in fact i'd like you to point out someone Bertuzzi has fought with that's not at least a middleweight.

for those that didn't know... Cooke said on PPV that the reason Avery wants to fight him is because Cooke put him out for 9 months in juniors.

lol. Bertuzzi drops the gloves, Avery ducks down, keeps the gloves on and turtles. Bertuzzi didn't bother punching him, just scared him into looking like an idiot pretty much.

9 months??? that would mean that Avery would have missed a full season in the OHL and that simply was never the case. I heard Cooke said that he beat him in a fight in junior but nothing about putting him out for 9 months. Check the stats, Avery pretty much played every year in junior, he missed 19 games during his second year but 19 games doesn't equal 9 months and Avery still played in the playoffs that year.

Avery cannot fight he and Tyson Nash fought to a draw once. If you cannot hand Tyson Nash his ass keep the gloves on.

Funny; Avery sticks Bertuzzi in the face, Bert drops the gloves and cocks his fist...but Avery's turtled. The look on Bertuzzi's face said it all, and it was interesting seeing Avery turn into a hypocrite. :p

I'm not even an Avery fan and I still think the majority of you sound ridiculous. Bertuzzi is 6'3 245 and Avery is 5'9 200. Give me a *** break.

What does it matter when he once had a draw against Nash.
Willie is right, Avery can hold his own. If you have seen the scraps pretty closely than you should know that.

did you not hear Cooke say 9 months? i know if you look at Avery's junior record it doesn't even look like he missed 9 weeks, but i was certain that's what Cooke said (i was just repeating what i heard, and if somebody else heard him say 9 weeks please inform me because i'll need my ears checked).

EDIT: doing a little research i found this

In that contest, Avery was crosschecked from behind by Matt
Cooke. Avery suffered a concussion and missed a month of the season.

the trouble is that he was trying to stir up trouble with Bertuzzi. When Bertuzzi wanted to respond, Avery turtled... and then as Bert skated away, Avery tried hooking him with his stick. The key is that Avery was asking for it all along without any intention of backing himself up. His desire was simply to draw the penalties and nothing more which he utterly failed at.

Did Avery do his job? He got arguably the Canucks best forward off the ice. I dont like him but the guy did his job.

yes and no... Avery sat for a double minor while Bert sat for two. I'd do that trade off any day. I think the key is not to make it look so painfully obvious what an agitator is trying to do.

See, when you go after a big guy like that, you're asking for it. Cooke did the same thing to Peter Worrell. Distinct size mismatch there, but Cooke didn't back down. Granted, Allen saved his hide(as any good teammate would), but at least Cooke didn't go and hook Worrell after the whole mess was over.
Bottom line, Avery wants to be a pest, but isn't very good at it.
