POMINVILLE AND ROY NAMED TO CANADIAN AHL ALL-STAR TEAM
Amerk Jason Pominville picked as a starter
(Rochester, NY)… Rochester Americans Jason Pominville and Derek Roy have been selected to play for the Canadian All-Star Team in the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic, to be held February 8-9 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. Both Amerks will make their first AHL All-Star appearances.
Pominville, who was named a starter for Canada, leads the Amerks with 15 goals and 32 points in 33 games. He has already eclipsed his single-season mark for goals in a season. The Repentigny, Quebec, native netted 13 goals in his rookie season in 73 games. Pominville is currently 10th in the AHL in points and second with 10 power-play goals.
The right wing made his National Hockey League debut on December 27th against Washington after being recalled by Buffalo on December 26th. Pominville was the Buffalo Sabres' second-round selection (55th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
With the Amerks this season, Roy had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 23 games. The center was also named the AHL Rookie of the Month for October.
