Nice right up. Quick question, Leslie, you seem to have a higher opinion of Staal's camp performance than the Dbui over at BSB and some of the beat writers. A lot of the remarks were about his puck handling and being pushed off the puck. Do you think this is due to his inexperience at the pro level? How do you think he's going to fare in the pre-season matches?

I differ in my opinion somewhat about how Staal did in the 5 days on the ice. He certainly made mistakes, but there was a lot of pressure on him. When I evaluated Staal,I did so mindful of the fact that most of the time he played with Sauer, another inexperienced player. And when he played with Girardi, the two of them together were not very effective. He did not play on a pairing with an experienced guy, and before we really evaluate him, we have to consider that. Staal did show some very good promise. Positionally, he was good most of the time, he used his reach well, and was agressive when he needed to be. Did he absolutely play his way onto the NHLteam, no way. But it is still very possible that he will begin the season in New York. The Rangers are already overstocked on D, but they would love to put Staal into the mix. Let's see how he does this weekend. Maybe he will get to play with a vet on D, and we will get a better look at his capabilities.

I think Sam Weinman also commented that Staal looked solid overall. Nothing flashy, nothing that made him stand out, but he was solid. Sam also thought that this was Staal attempting to simplify his game and not try to do too much, like he did last year.
