Game day...Oilers vs Islanders jan8/04

since there was no other game day threads i thought i would start one

First time back to the Island for Torres and Izzy and second game played since the trade, the first game was a islander victory. The second one i predict will be won by the oilers.5-2
The Islanders have a few key injurys right now with Yashin and Parish out of the line up.The oilers seem to be getting Healthy again with Reasoner and Cross expected to play tonight.looks like Stoll and M.A.B will be watching from the press box tonight.

Chimera and Laraque are the forwards sitting for tonight.

Considering their recent "success" against the Isle, I say NY 4-1.

If Reasoner's really back in the lineup, I'd say 2-2 tie as Marty could give the team a boost mentally/emotionally (but will be rusty hockey-wise). If he doesn't play, I'd say 3-1 Islanders with an empty-netter.

I think as a near-rookie, Raffi will be nervous. It won't be Raffi but Isbister with the big game on the Island. 1 goal, 1 assist and a fight for Izzy.

Even thought the Oilers haven't won on Long Island in a long time, I will remain optimistic. 2-1 Oil.

I saw the lines Hemsky with Horecoff and Stoll? what has he done to deserve this? what purpose does it serve for an offensivly challenged team to put it's most creative player with guys that have minimal offensive talent? I just don't get it. I was hoping ales would play with Reasoner when he got back.

Has anyone seen who's starting in net tonight?

Salo has been playing a bit better the last little while but with that aside, I don't think he has played a strong game back on the Island since he came to Edmonton. Too many bad Milbury memories maybe?

I hope it's Conklin.

I like the Horcoff-Stoll-Hemsky line.
Horcoff has been playing good lately, Stoll is good defensively and has shown some finish too!

Islanders already are on a 3 game winless streak just like the Devils. Bear in mind that Salo, Brewer and Isbister have not had good times playing against their former club, Torres is in his first game against them and that they are full of ex-Oilers like Czierkawski, Niinima, Hamrlik all of who are good players.

I expect the Oilers to win this game. Let's say 5-3 with Isbister and Torres leading the charge and Yorkie adding more points. Czierkawski nets one in for the Isles.

I agree with Horcoff bieng challenged, but Stoll has been great. That back hand pass to Izzy at the end of the NJ game should have been in the net however Izzy couldn't finish. He had a nice goal against CHI too. Hemmer needs somone with finish though. Same with Oates. We are seriously lacking in that dept.

Its going to be another tie as both teams lack offense.

Old NYI alumni against Oil alumni

Salo, Brewer, Torres, Valiquette(not playing), Isbister

Spaz, Hammer, ChowChow, Boots

It's GOT to be Salo in net here, though...just from the way they're playing him. If Conklin were to get in a game, it should have been the game before New Jersey, but it wasn't, and now Salo's had an extra couple of days' rest, so he MUST start tonight.

Meaning from the coaches' standpoint of playing him lots to get him back into a groove sooner rather than later, which we may or may not agree with.

4-2 Isles, I think this is the first time Ive ever predicted an Oilers loss, so I hope I reverse jinx them and they come out on top.
Bates, Aucoin with 2 (1 ES, 1 SH), and Ninnimaa
Dvorak, Isbister

So are these the lineups then?
Torres-York-Dvorak
Smyth-Oates-Isbister
Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani
Horcoff-Stoll-Hemsky

I think this will be a rather boring game, the kind that makes you wanna go to the front door, put on your shoes, walk back to the television set, take off your shoes and through them at the television, and then returning the shoes nicely to wear they belong.

I usually don't make predictions, but I see the Oil winning this one.

3-0 EDM

Salo with the doughnut.

Ulanov, Stoll and York with the goals.

Why the hell not right ;-)

Mike York is SUCH a good hockey player. I remember when he was a Ranger, i'd go over to the NYR board and read about what a fine player he was. Plus every time I saw him he'd made terrific passes, get into scoring position and make a smart play every shift.

And now, he does that for our club. Uses his brain every shift, understands his role and is very creative in the offensive zone.

It's just terrific that he's an Oiler. A very fine hockey player.

I remember the trade happening and just not beleiving klowe got york out of ny. That few times i saw him play he was just amazing. Playing with lindros, he made that line work. I just hope he stays healthy and an oiler for a long time.
