In 05-06 we were able to witness one of the greatest shots to ever play the game. Jagr would skate to the middle, and let loose a laser shot - sometimes seemingly without even looking at the net. The accuracy, release speed and power of the shot was simply stunning. No Ranger player in the past 20 years had a shot even in the same league. In 5 on 3s, they would set Jagr up on top of the circle and pass the puck around until they could get him open. And then he'd unleash the laser. Every defender on the ice - including the goalie knew what was going to happen. But they were almost powerless to stop it. Amazing.
Last year, the shot went into hibernation because of his shoulder injury.
And now, almost 16 months after the injury - a huge open question I have this year is - is the shot back for another year of terrorizing opposing goalies? Or has it retired forever and will the mere mortal new but not improved Jagr shot of last year be on display?
I don't follow injury recoveries too well, so I don't know how strong other players have been coming off the surgery Jagr had, but if he's worked hard to regain his strength, then I wouldn't be shocked to see him close to where he was before. What a laser he had in 05-06.
looked better than it did at the beginning of the season. If it's not 100% by now, then that isn't a good sign since an aging, injured shoulder is always more prone to further, and potentially more serious, injury. There's been no mention of it but one would guess that it's mostly healed. Only a guess though.
